Democrat Admits Party Lied to Public
by Big Dog on May 24, 2008 at 11:03 Political
Jay at Stop the ACLU (video there) has a great pot up of Congressman Kanjorski who admits that the Democratic Party stretched the facts (and people ate it up) about ending the war and they did this just so they could win back Congress. He admits that what they said was not true and that anyone who was a good student of government would know it was not true. And yet they did it.
“I’ll tell you my impression. We really in this last election, when I say we…the Democrats, I think pushed it as far as we can to the end of the fleet, didn’t say it, but we implied it. That if we won the Congressional elections, we could stop the war. Now anybody was a good student of Government would know that wasn’t true. But you know, the temptation to want to win back the Congress, we sort of stretched the facts…and people ate it up.” [emphasis mine]
I’ll take it further, they claimed that if they won they would stop the war. It was not an implication at all. After they won they tried to stop the war and they said the last election showed that people wanted it but they could not do it. They claimed they would stop the war right along with their claim that they had a plan to bring gas prices down. Neither turned out to be true.
It comes as no surprise that the Democrats lied to take Congress back. The fact of the matter is all politicians lie and sane people know this. This is why it amazes me that people who supported the Clintons for years are astonished that Hillary got caught in a lie (more than one). They have been lying for decades and no one caught on. Most other politicians are not as open about it and certainly not as open as Kanjorski.
Ladies and gentlemen, as you go to the polls this year thinking that the Democrats and the Obamessiah will end the war and fix everything that ails you remember that they lied to you about the war and many other issues just to regain control. They will tell you anything in order to get elected and now we have an admission of this.
The Congressman noted that those who were students of government (or at least followed it) would have seen the truth. This post is for those of you who cannot name the three branches of government or think that government is designed to take care of you from cradle to grave. This is for those who are not students of government but are mindless sheep who follow the flock.
One last thing. We have heard that Bush lied and people died for 5 years now. The Democrats said they would end the war but it has now been admitted that they lied. Is it fair to now claim the Democrats lied and people died?

I think you’re playing games with the meaning of lie here. It was a campaign promise they failed to keep, but they certainly tried to do pretty much everything they said they would. They just failed is all, which is a different monster of sorts.
Is failing to carry out a promise a lie in the sense you imply? I don’t think so. Did Bush lie when he said he’d fix social security? Did Bush lie when he promised to get bin Laden dead or alive? I wouldn’t say so myself (though he’s not off the hook on other stuff).
You forget maybe that the Congress under the Democrats did in fact pass every single bit of the 100 hours agenda. The majority of their key pieces made it on into law. This includes minimum wage, college assistance, job creation legislation, and Katrina aid. That’s important to me, probably not so much to you.
Overall as a Democrat I’m pretty disappointed at the impotency of the 110th Congress concerning the war. But personally I’m glad Democrats are in charge and compared to the do nothing/rubber stamp 109th I’d say it’s a step in the right direction. When people go to the polls they won’t be thinking “What promises did the Democrats make and not keep?” It will be more along the lines of “Who do I think is best suited to handle the issues that trouble me, like the economy and the war?” You don’t have to be a Political Science major to feel which way the wind is blowing…

It is one thing to make a proise and then be unable to keep it. It is another to make a promise and know full well when you make it that you cannot keep it. That would be a lie. When the man says it was not rue he is saying they knew they were lying.
Don’t forget that they passed much of that 100 hour stuff by tacking it to a war funding bill and by excluding the Republicans from the process. They would have never done it otherwise.
The man told us they lied I don’t think he is looking for people to make excuses for it.
BD, the only things in the Dems way to totally **** up this country right now is the President and the close numbers of Republicans hanging on by a thread.
However, I suspect that after the November elections and Obama wins and the Republicans loose the close number of “hang on” votes, everything will change. The DNC backing questionable voter practices and the silent majority going absent from the voting booths will certainly **** everything up.
I hate to say it but, the sports bar politics I see today makes me want to barf. Whatever happened to the America I grew up in? We have set in motion a real mess. Sorry that I am so pessimistic today. I just don’t see the silent majority of Americans putting down their remotes, IPODs, and creature comforts until it is too late. America better wake up and smell the **** river before it to the point of no return. As France moves to the right to make a stand, America under the leadership of Pelosi, Kerry, Reid, and the Obama crowd is planning to take a giant step to the left.

“It is another to make a promise and know full well when you make it that you cannot keep it.”
I have seen nothing other than this 1 man’s words that suggest the Democrats went into the elections knowing that they would not end the war. They knew it would be tough, and they weren’t sure where to start, but to say they knew they weren’t going to and said they would anyway is without evidence.
The problem is they didn’t have a veto proof majority to stop the war and you can’t know that until after the election.
“Don’t forget that they passed much of that 100 hour stuff by tacking it to a war funding bill and by excluding the Republicans from the process. They would have never done it otherwise.”
Your point? They planned it. They passed it. Bush signed it in to law. Apparently they didn’t do it the right away though, so it doesn’t count?
Adams last blog post..A Hillary Clinton Stalwart?
The point is you act like it was a great thing and yet when the right did that they were circumventing the system. It certainly is not right to exclude the other party and to hold war funding hostage.
Defend them if you must but they lied. Hopey will not end the war, should he be elected. If by some miracle that happens then there will be a horrible backlash and I can’t wait to point that out.
Bosun,
You are correct as usual.
The thing about the Democrats is that when they stopped moaning about obstructionist Republicans and they got off their crybaby asses then they won the election in a landslide, took back over both chambers of Congress, and then were able to get their legislation through. Now the GOP is the one crying about not being invited to the party. Big fat surprise. Doesn’t feel very good, does it?
When you have an agenda supported by the people, and you are put in power by the people, then you better get that agenda passed using whatever means available under the constitution. There’s a reason public opinion of the Democrats spiked after the election and then returned to a downward trend soon after. They failed to do anything to even change direction in the war, let alone stop the war.
The Dems would suffer for it this year and in the next election if it wasn’t for how much worse the GOP has handled itself and how much the Republican party has hurt this country in the last decade…
Adams last blog post..A Hillary Clinton Stalwart?
The Dems never stopped crying until they were in the majority. I also do not remember the GOP excluding them from the process. I am not crying about it. I am pointing out that they are not doing it the correct way.
Landslide? What planet were you on? There was no landslide or mandate by your own reasoning when you said that the small number of people who voted did not give Bush a mandate. Regardless, I would not call this a landslide. A good drubbing, yes.
How can you say that we ruined the country when all the numbers are as good as or better than Clinton’s? The only difference is we are at war not just going around bombing people to keep the press off Bill’s sexcapades.
How many terrorist attacks have occurred here or on US interests since 9/11? Don’t discuss the war, it is a war and we expect people to shoot and blow things up. How many attacks have we had on our interests (embassies, ships, etc) since 9/11 which was given to us by Bill.
And Adam,
You are mistaken. Prior to the election it was the Democrats who were obstructing everything.
Sort of like Obama and his hold on an FEC nominee. Why do you suppose that is?
Remember how long it to for Bush to get his selection confirmed in 2001. He was lucky he had anyone confirmed before 9/11. The left is destroying America.
Adam, I believe you are either naive or just plain wrong.

You are correct about the obstructionist stuff I said. I should have said they stopped crying about being excluded from the process. One of the reasons they got the label obstructionist was because they were doing whatever they could do to have in a minority worth of say. Now the role has reversed and you hear similar complains from the right from time to time.
“Landslide? What planet were you on? There was no landslide or mandate by your own reasoning when you said that the small number of people who voted did not give Bush a mandate. Regardless, I would not call this a landslide. A good drubbing, yes.”
Democrats gained 31 house seats, 5 senate seats, and 6 state governors giving them majorities in all 3. Bush won by 2% and now he has the lowest approval record of any president in recent history. If Bush had a mandate than what the Democrats got was well beyond that.

I eat too much soy. It makes me naive.

Anybody in their “right” mind, pardon the pun, knew they were lying but people bought it anyway. You are right, they didn’t just imply that they would end the war, they promised they would. What is most surprising is that so many people actually thought that they would.

🙂 Adam you remembered my piece on soy. I posted it at Hannity.Com forum, too. Got a rise out of it, there. I also eat a lot of soy and it has not made my breasts grow. 🙂

This video (and admission), along with Maxine Waters’ major liberal-mask slip is wonderful. More More More!! The longer this election battle on the left goes on, the more the liberal facade starts to fall away. TY for the link BD!
