Dems React to Clemency, Big Dog Dissects Comments

As you might know by now, President Bush granted clemency for Scooter Libby who will now not have to serve his jail time after his conviction for lying to the Grand Jury and obstruction of justice (or miscarriage of justice depending upon how you look at it). I wrote earlier that the left would go bonkers over this. I have some of their quotes and I thought I would publish them and see if we can make sense of them. I already dissected Obama’s stupidity so I will not investigate his further. Without further ado:

  • “When it comes to the law, there should not be two sets of rules – one for President Bush and Vice President Cheney and another for the rest of America. Even Paris Hilton had to go to jail. No one in this administration should be above the law.” – Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill.
Or one for Bill Clinton and a different one for Libby. Paris Hilton had to go to jail but Harry Reid, William Jefferson and Bill Clinton did not. You are right Dickey, there should not be two sets of rules, one for Bill Clinton and the Democrats and one for everyone else.
  • “Accountability has been in short supply in the Bush administration, and this commutation fits that pattern.” – Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt.
Accountability has been in short supply in Washington DC for decades. No one, left or right takes responsibility for his actions. However Senator, you were the one who leaked classified information in the past. How did you hold yourself accountable for that? Why are you still in office?
  • “Only a president clinically incapable of understanding that mistakes have consequences could take the action he did today. President Bush has just sent exactly the wrong signal to the country and the world.” – former Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C.
Johnny, Johnny, Johnny. Yes mistakes have consequences but when was the last time you saw this excessive of a punishment for this type of crime by a first time offender? I have seen bank robbers and people committing crimes with guns allowed back on the street sooner. Let me ask you John, how did you vote with regard to the Clinton Impeachment? Did his mistakes have consequences or was it OK because he is a Democrat? Just to remind you, you voted not guilty so shut up dumb ass
  • “The Constitution gives President Bush the power to commute sentences, but history will judge him harshly for using that power to benefit his own vice president’s chief of staff who was convicted of such a serious violation of law.” – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.
Harry, I will ask you the same question. How did you vote in the Clinton impeachment? You voted not guilty. If history will not look unfavorably on a bozo like you voting that Clinton was not guilty when he clearly committed the crime, then I think Bush will get a pass on this one. Harry, I know you think you can do what you want and the way you break the law on a regular basis shows it but you can’t let Clinton slide and hammer Libby. Sorry jackass, now you can sit down.
  • “This commutation sends the clear signal that in this administration, cronyism and ideology trump competence and justice.” – Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y.
Hill, you are the last person who should discuss cronyism considering how you and that bumpkin husband of yours brought all your hog slopping buddies to the White House as pay offs. Seeing how your hubby made sure his friends received pardons perhaps you should leave this one alone. Susan McDougal, two Democratic Congressmen and Roger Clinton (Bill’s half brother) were all pardoned by him so don’t discuss cronyism with those of us who know the score. You might be able to get the airheads following you around to believe it but the fact is your hubby was less than honorable in the pardon department. Do us a favor and ride through Dallas with the top down.
  • “The president said he would hold accountable anyone involved in the Valerie Plame leak case. By his action today, the president shows his word is not to be believed.” – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
San Fran Nan, nice of you to chime in with your stupid comment of the day. Show me please, how Libby was involved in the Plame case. He did not leak her name, he was convicted of lying. If they convicted Democrats every time they lied you could hold session in the county lock-up. Read this carefully bimbo, Libby was convicted of lying. You and your colleagues lie every day. Does that mean you are involved in the Plame case as well? You really should think before you open your mouth. Is the Botox numbing your brain?
  • “It is time for the American people to be heard – I call for all Americans to flood the White House with phone calls tomorrow expressing their outrage over this blatant disregard for the rule of law.” – Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del.
I am assuming these are Biden’s words. He is known to use the words of others and take credit but we will assume they are his. Hey Joe, I am urging all Americans to call you office and let you know what a boob we think you are. America, please call Joe’s DC office at 202-224-5042 and let him know that you think he is a boob. Flood his office with phone calls telling him that you agree with the clemency, or that you don’t agree because you think it should have been a pardon.
  • “President Bush’s 11th-hour commutation of Scooter Libby’s sentence makes a mockery of the justice system and betrays the idea that all Americans are expected to be held accountable for their actions, even close friends of Vice President Cheney.” – Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass.
John, if ever there was a jackass who was not held accountable it was you. You went off to Vietnam and scammed the system and then when you came home you protested this country while still in the Naval Reserve, probably received a less than honorable discharge (until Carter changed it) and met with the enemy of this country as a private citizen. These are acts of treason and instead of taking you out back and shooting you, they put you in office. You were not held accountable until 2004 and how did you handle that? You cried it was a bunch of unfair lies, boo hoo. If you believe in accountability, how did you hold Clinton accountable? You voted not guilty so when you had your chance to hold someone accountable, you let your friend off the hook. Shut up loser.
  • “By commuting Scooter Libby’s sentence, the president continues to abdicate responsibility for the actions of his administration. The only ones paying the price for this administration’s actions are the American people.” – Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn.
Chris, you too voted not guilty on Clinton so spare us the feigned indignation. You abdicated your responsibility when it came to Clinton’s impeachment. You failed to hold Billy accountable for what he did and you let him off the hook. Surely you are not suggesting that Libby should receive a harsher punishment? But of course you are, Libby is a Republican.
  • “This decision sends the wrong message about the rule of law in the United States, just as the president is meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. How can we hold the line against injustices in other countries when our own executive branch deliberately sets out to smear its critics, lies about it and then wriggles away without having to pay the price in prison?” – Rep. Tom Lantos, D-Calif.
Well, Tom, where was all this indignation when Democrats were urging people to get on board with immigration amnesty? It seems to me that a lot of Americans were saying that granting amnesty to these people undermines the rule of law in our country but Democrats were insisting that this is the only way. Hell, these people only committed a felony by breaking in. Let’s give them amnesty, social security, Medicaid and free schooling for their kids while we screw Libby to a cross. Would you also care to show how the administration attacked its critics when Wilson was the one who lied? If he had not said that Cheney sent him it probably would not have been an issue. You have been smoking too much of the medical marijuana, haven’t you? Shut up jackass.
  • “The arrogance of this administration’s disdain for the law and its belief it operates with impunity are breathtaking. Will the president also commute the sentences of others who obstructed justice and lied to grand juries, or only those who act to protect President Bush and Vice President Cheney?” – New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson.
Well Bill, I imagine whoever he decides to take care of he will not do it for money. Where were you when Billy sold pardons for millions of dollars? Were you screaming about that? Can you explain why you went to Sudan to try and free Paul Salopek, a National Geographic reporter who had been charged with espionage. He has two passports, maps of the place and no visa. I have no doubt this guy was innocent but he was charged under the law there and Christopher Shays, who had been there earlier stated; “[Salopek] did a very foolish thing coming into the country without a visa and he knows that… He knew he made a mistake.” Bill, I admire the fact that you helped the guy out but if he broke the law are you not showing disdain for it by intervening on his behalf? He admitted that he broke the law by not having the visa. You worked to make sure he was released with no jail time, same thing President Bush did for Libby. Don’t let partisan politics get in the way of decency. Libby did not murder anyone.

That does it for stupid Congress quotes for the time being. The stupidity and double standard is amazing. Any Senator who voted not guilty on Clinton has no say in this matter because they have shown perjury is OK by them. They all need to get back to work and stop playing games. Though I did say they would lose their minds…..

Jackasses.

    BD,

Clinton was involved in a civil case. I personally never thought the case should be dropped – just postponed until after he was out of office so that it wouldn’t be a distraction for the country and the President of the world’s most powerful nation.

Libby on the other hand obstructed a CRIMINAL investigation. The crime appears to have sacrificed national security (Plame worked on WMD issues) for political gain. I know, what else is new with Bush, right? They do it all the time…

Drop on by my blog. I’ll have a post up shortly. Feel free to leave comments. There are a few basic questions up that I never hear asked in the liberal media and maybe you can answer them.

  4. Big Dog says:

Clinton was impeached on the grounds of perjury to a grand jury. That is what Libby was convicted of. They are the same, lying to the Grand Jury. He might have been telling the same lie that he told in the civil case but he lied to the Grand Jury.

Besides, the law is the law and it does not matter when or where you commit perjury. If you want to get technical though, it was proven beyond a doubt that Clinton lied. It was not in the Libby case. To have perjury you have to prove the person intended to lie. The only thing we can see in the Libby case is his recollection was different from that of others (all of whom had different versions of events so were they all lying). There was no proof that he intended to lie. The Left wanted a head and Fitzgerald gave it to them.

  5. Big Dog says:

    And there is this:
Paula Jones’ lawyers handed Clinton a now famous definition of “sexual relations”–“contact with the genitalia, anus, groin, breast, inner thigh, or buttocks of a person with an intent to arouse or gratify the sexual desire of any person”–and asked whether he’d had these sort of relations with Lewinsky. Clinton answered no. Kenneth Starr asked Clinton the same question before a grand jury, and again Clinton answered no.

Clinton’s lawyers point out that “this narrow definition did not include certain physical acts.” This, of course, is an indirect way of saying that it doesn’t include oral sex. But what about Lewinsky’s claim that Clinton touched her breasts? Clinton’s lawyers admit that if Lewinsky is correct then Clinton perjured himself. But they point out that, under Federal law, one person’s testimony is not enough to prove perjury. (The Supreme Court has ruled that perjury cannot be proved by “an oath against an oath.”) So Clinton’s lawyers are technically correct in concluding that “this is not a case of perjury … the factual record would not support a prosecution for perjury.”

Notice that the definition says contact with but the Clinton lawyers said it did not describe certain acts. If oral sex is not contact with genitalia in Clinton’s book he never deserved to be President. He lied. But also notice that the SCOTUS said that you can not have perjury based on one person’s oath against another’s. Libby was convicted based on the testimony of other people who could have been charged in the case. This violates the SCOTUS decision and is grounds for overturn on appeal.

Clinton lied to the Grand Jury about his civil case. He lied in the Civil Court. You can not excuse those two. Probably most telling is he lied right to the camera and to the American people. How could anyone ever trust him again? (Assuming anyone trusted him to begin with)

  16. Billy Joe says:

I love it how the President acknowledges that crimes were committed (obstruction of justice, perjury), but thinks the sentence is too harsh. So instead of reducing it from 30 months to 30 days, Bush reduced it to 0 (ZERO!) days and a penalty that will surely be paid by his friends.

Once again, Bush opens up a pandora’s box. Wasn’t the right-wing blogosphere going ballistic a few weeks ago when Paris moaned about her excessively harsh sentence? Back then you couldn’t visit a right-wing blog without being inundated with righteous indignation. It was the only story being covered by some of them. I wonder if people will start whining about excessive punishments around the country now. I bet they will and it’ll be because Bush established two tiers of justice.

Way to go! A two-tiered justice system – that’s very American!
