Global Warming, Snow, and Maryland

The Baltimore Sun reports:
A U.S. Senate committee is scheduled for an historic vote on a global warming bill this week, perhaps as early as Wednesday. Environmental groups are planning a flurry of press conferences tomorrow (12/4/2007) to try to influence the vote.
Meanwhile, in Maryland, Gov. Martin O’Malley’s advisory Commission on Climate Change is scheduled to meet tomorrow to discuss possible steps to reduce the state’s greenhouse gas emissions. The 22-member goup [sic], headed by state Environmental Secretary Shari T. Wilson, is looking to recommend that the state adopt laws to cut greenhouse gases by 25 percent by 2020, and then move aggressively to slash the pollutants by 90 percent by 2050, according to a draft report. To achieve these goals, the state should tighten its energy efficiency standards, strengthen building codes, require more clean energy generation, among other steps.
The Senate might vote tomorrow on global warming. Coincidentally, the DC area is expected to get an inch or so of snow. This comes on the heels of a massive winter storm that killed more than a dozen people in the Northeast and a snowstorm in Colorado that delayed the opening of a ski resort…
Martin O’Malley of Maryland is getting his global bona fides by having his commission on climate change in time to beef up his resume for a position in a Clinton administration. If Governor O’Malley wants to clean up the toxic gases in Maryland all he needs to do is keep his mouth shut and gag the Democrats in Annapolis. Speaking of Annapolis, getting rid of that cess pool of legislators would go a long way toward cleaning up Maryland.
One thing is for sure. Whatever plan these nimrods come up with will involve tax increases on top of the recent tax hikes voted for by the jackasses in the state. The largest tax increase in the history of the state and it was done by none other than the Democrats. Couple that will all the new spending and they can hardly deny the tax and spend title they often try to hide.
I guess it will be another fun filled winter with global warming discussions while we freeze our rears off. If only we had actually invaded Iraq for its oil we would all be able to afford fuel for the winter…

Just for the record, snow does not in any way disprove global warming. Even the most basic global warming concepts teach that the warming causes climate destabilization, not just warm weather. It’s a pretty simple idea, so I don’t know why so many people think it’s ironic when there is cold weather still if global warming is real. In fact, more extreme global warming theories say that the warming will cause an iceage.
I have a funny picture in my head of you during an ice age standing around saying “Look at all this ice, I knew global warming was a scam, but at least Ted Kennedy will have plenty of ice for his whiskey glass.”
This is the reason many people have sought to redefine it as “global climate change” instead of “global warming.” But if the big bang theory is of any example, you can’t go back once something has been branded.
Unfortunately, the issue you cite is based upon a false pretense. The Earth has been warming and cooling for tens of thousands of years and long before man was around to have any impact.
30 years ago we were headed for an ice age. Now we are warming up and it will be too late. The problem is, no real science is done to prove this. Al Gore repeated it and deemed it was true and that is the end of the discussion. There are as many scientists who do not believe in GW as do but they are ignored because they do not fit the agenda.
I get this picture in 20 years of you standing around in an environment much like it is today and after spending billions of dollars saying, it is coming, the ice caps are melting and we will get flooded.
I am willing to bet that this will not take place in our lifetimes even though Al has given us less than a decade.
I’m not as smart as Al Gore and all the rest of the “Global Climate Change” Chicken Littles.
Would some one please explaine to me just HOW something that happens after the event caused it? If you look at even AlGores charts that he’s glossing over, you can see the global heating before the CO2 rising.
And I was always under the assumption that unpredictable ‘climatic changes’ used to be called *the weather*.
Sure, you can find a number of people who do and do not believe in anything, but it’s flat out wrong to say there as an equal number of scientists that don’t believe in global warming.
Define real science. The National Academies of Science, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, American Meteorological Society, American Geophysical Union, and American Association for the Advancement of Science have all issued statements saying global warming is real and being influenced by humans. These are all heavily peer reviewed sources who have issued statements based on what the majority of their panels have concluded.
There’s more evidence to suggest that the conspiracy is in global warming denial, and not in scientists trying to swindle people into believing their myths. But then again, why would Exxon lie to us?
The conspiracy is the belief that oil companies sponsor the research that is opposite of the GW crowd.
Many scientists who sign on to GW receive government money for their research.
However, there are just as many scientists from these groups who say that GW is not man made. In fact the Earth has been heating and cooling in cycles for billions of years and this has been shown time and again through scientific study.
There are also a number of people in the groups you mention who say the final report does not reflect what they agreed upon and that some items were changed.
The fact is there is NO evidence that was obtained by using the scientific method that shows GW is man made.
Yes, the Earth is warming as it has about every 1500 years since long before man was here. There is evidence of GW on Mars. Care to explain how man caused that?
It makes NO sense to spend billions of dollars on something that the scientific community does not have consensus on. It does not make sense to sign on to something or spend money when it will make no difference.
You might have a better argument if the conference on GW in Bali did not have a gazillion people who all flew there in private jets. Even they know it is BS.
I will never agree to spending money for this. 30 years ago it was the ice age and Ozone hole. The hole is the same size or smaller and we are not in an ice age.
Besides, none of these scientists you mentioned can tell us what the weather will be next week or what affect it will have. What makes you think I should listen to them when it comes to years down the road?
Al Gore has no training in this. He is a lawyer and he has a waste dump on his property, a property that uses more fossil fuels in a month than I use in a year.
It is junk science…
