Know Your Role

Big Sis, Janet Napolitano, says that the invasive screenings at airports are all about security and that people need to know their roles:
“It’s all about security,” Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said. “It’s all about everybody recognizing their role.” AP
You got that America? You need to know your place and if you fail to see it then the Gestapo in the TSA will put you in your place.
In a country where people who put bombs in their shoes or underwear are given every right available, where they cannot be questioned unless read their rights, where they are allowed access to attorneys and all the legal avenues, the citizens, who have done nothing wrong and are not suspected of doing anything wrong, are subject to violations of their rights.
And Big Sis says to suck it up and know your place. It is all about “…recognizing their role.”
So let me help you recognize your role, Janet. Your job is to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. Your role is to carry out the functions of Homeland Security without violating the rights of the people. Your role is to do your job without infringing on the rights of the governed, those from whom you get your authority.
Unless you have a valid reason to believe that people are carrying dangerous items on airplanes you have no authority to violate their rights.
Screen passengers all you want but do so in a manner that does not violate their rights.
In America the police cannot just pat down kids standing on a street corner to look for drugs or weapons but our government can unleash its Nazis to molest the traveling public with no regard to personal rights.
And this must stop.
Janet Napolitano, you need to learn YOUR role. If you are unable then you need to resign.
Cave Canem!
Never surrender, never submit.

“Janet Napolitano, you need to learn YOUR role.”:
Excuse me one moment.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Sadly, Big Dog, you’re dreaming. The government’s role today in America is, literally, whatever they want it to be. They’re federal bureaucrats — they answer to NO ONE. Ever. The only thing they understand, because its the way they get what they want, is violence.
You better not mention violence, you will make Nancy Pelosi cry. She has seen it before…
Can we stop comparing TSA to Nazis and Gestapo? Flying on an airplane is not a right. It is not like TSA is coming into our homes or businesses and forcing us to be scanned or patted down.
I don’t agree with Ogre’s very pessimistic approach to all things government and his view that we’ve lost the right to redress of grievances. We have many outlets still and the pressure is growing on this. It won’t last long. I almost guarantee you this won’t be in place by Christmas if the trend continues as it is going. If it is still in place by Thanksgiving there will be an overwhelming backlash against it and they will “temporarily” suspend usage of it or magically the threat level will change so it doesn’t have to happen anymore.
You are probably right. The Nazis and Gestapo were competent. Evil, but competent.
Actually, no, I don’t see any reason to stop comparing them to Nazis, as what they’re doing is very, very similar. If you study the history of the evolution of the Nazi government, you will find many, many parallels. The biggest difference, so far, is that the targets today are not limited to a single religion.
As for the flying being a right — well, that’s the argument that’s being put forth by government today, and again, it’s quite similar to the incremental approached used by the Nazi government. Sure, flying is not a right. Neither is owning a home. Neither is owning a gun. Neither is…oh wait, do we have any rights? Oh sure, you have the right to criticize government — not that they’ll do anything about it. Oh, and they might arrest you and harass you if you do.
Seriously. Take me back to a time of freedom. Suggest anything that you can DO without either breaking the law or asking government permission. I honestly cannot think of a single thing.
Flying is not a right but you do not have to surrender your rights to engage in it. Driving is not a right but if you are stopped for speeding the police do not have the authority to search you for weapons without probable cause. You do not lose your rights by engaging in an activity that is not a right.
You have a right to own a gun but they demonize you when you actually own one.
Big Dog: “Flying is not a right but you do not have to surrender your rights to engage in it.”
I agree for the most part. I think the policy is wrong. I just don’t see this as anything similar to what Nazis did or a justified comparison.
Big Dog: “You have a right to own a gun but they demonize you when you actually own one.”
Who is they?
Ogre: “Actually, no, I don’t see any reason to stop comparing them to Nazis, as what they’re doing is very, very similar.”
Very, very similar? I think that stretches things greatly. The difference is that DHS is doing this to prevent airline attacks and to cover it’s own ass. They will take things very far in order to do that. It’s not doing this simply to erode our freedoms in order to consolidate and expand government power. I’m not saying the policy is any less wrong, but I do I think that comparisons of this nature are very cynical and off base.
Why don’t the people in government admit that profiling works? Al Queda is NOT recruiting grandmothers et al- I guess it is true- TSA Does mean “Thousands Standing Around”.
It could also mean “Terminally Stupid Applies”, because they can’t or won’t do the right things.
Turn this over to private companies, and you will get a streamlined product that actually WORKS- that is exactly what competition does- it provides the incentive to do things in a productive way, whereas the government is the exact opposite.
And you know, where private companies are doing airport security, they ARE doing a better job and for less money.
Depends on the kind of profiling you want to do.
I’m not comparing the Nazis in 1945 to DHS today. Instead, I’m comparing the Nazis of 1928-1930 to DHS of today. A large portion of what the Nazis started was ONLY for “public safety.” That is exactly what DHS is doing today. Heck, even Obama and the Democrat Party are openly organizing propaganda, saying their only failure of the last four years was not convincing people they were right. The DHS is also taking this track.
What were the actions of the Nazis specifically that are so much like what DHS is doing?
An argument isn’t just contradiction.
Her role – their role – all of government’s role is to SERVE THE PEOPLE. They keep forgetting that and I think they need a big reminder. This being scanned or get felt up kind of thing is NOT serving us, the people of this country. What it is doing is treating us like the criminals that come to this country and should be blown up into little bitty pieces if they even find an inkling of a shoe bomb or underwear explosive or whatever. Yes, I say profile the jerks and get it over with. That’s right – I said it. I’m a racist, blah, blah, blah. Hater. Meanie. Call me names but if one of those TSA mongers comes near me without a diamond engagement ring he is going to have to pull my foot out of somewhere very unpleasant. I’d rather be arrested than irradiated or groped.
I know we have some home-grown nuts that commit terrorist acts but let’s face it, Blake nailed it when he said that little grandmas and infants are most likely not being recruited for the big kaboom. I know it was a joke but I love the idea of a lead tank where any explosives on the person was detonated and then they announced a vacancy on the flight. LMAO – that’s what I’m talking about. This government is out of control.
