Al Gore’s Book; Sour Grapes?

Al Gore has a book out that is basically a fairy tale about how wonderful life would be if he had been elected president. We would all live in mansions on the hill with no war and no poverty and the world would love us, blah, blah. One thing I thought was interesting is this passage:

“The Assault On Reason” begins as an academic discourse about the one-sided, corporate-controlled television medium with no interactivity.

Gore argues that television not only creates a dynamic that runs contrary to Thomas Jefferson’s desire for a “well-informed citizenry” but lulls viewers in a partially immobilized state and allows unreasoned communicators to sell false bills of goods, such as, say, that there was a connection between the Sept. 11 hijackers and Saddam Hussein. ABC News

One sided discussion such as a documentary on global warming that gives one skewed point of view? A documentary that takes as gospel the idea of global warming and proceeds from there? A documentary that does not allow disagreement on the exaggerated claims?

Yep, I can see how Gore would hate such a thing…

Senators Think We Are not Bright Enough to Understand

Senator Saxby Chambliss received boos and hisses when he was discussing the bipartisan amnesty bill going through the Senate. In typical elitist fashion this elected official let us know that once again Congress understands and we do not. We are not as smart as they are, you see. They know better than we how to spend our money and how to live our lives so of course they know better when it comes to immigration. Chambliss was fairly condescending when he said:

After the speech, Chambliss said he took the crowd’s reaction as a lack of popular understanding of the shape of the current immigration system. AJC.com

A lack of popular understanding is how he took it. How about I tell you what it means Senator? What it means is that Americans know exactly what amnesty is and we know that you jackasses in Congress are allowing law breakers a free pass. You might think we are stupid, and since you were elected maybe we are, but we are well aware that many provisions will be trimmed out to make this better for ILLEGALS. The 5 grand they have to pay will be trimmed or eliminated as will many other provisions. The bottom line though, is that no matter what you call it, it is AMNESTY and we understand that perfectly.

Not to be outdone by Chambliss, Senator Lindsey Graham took a shot at people who are not in favor of this amnesty bill:

“If you don’t like President Bush’s proposal come up with one of your own that can get support in the Congress to control immigration — which is in chaos,” Graham said. The State

Well Lindsay, in case you are unaware this is Ted Kennedy’s proposal. Though I am quite displeased that Bush signed on to it, it is not accurate to say that it is his proposal. Secondly, it is not my job to come up with proposals dumb ass, that is what we pay you for. But we also pay you to enforce the laws of this nation and by allowing law breakers to pay some token fine (that will likely be lowered or eliminated) you cheapen this country and tell the rest of the people in the world that America does not enforce the law. Kennedy gave us the last amnesty about 25 years ago and swore to America that the security measures would make amnesty unnecessary again in the future. Here we are 25 years later and we are giving amnesty to 3-5 times as many people, something Teddy the Boozer promised would not happen.

I thought you were a JAG officer? Are not most of you people lawyers? How is it that you all are too stupid or too blind to see that these people are breaking the law and that you are giving them amnesty. I have an idea for you and the rest of the idiots who infest the halls of the Capitol, how about we give the same consideration to all the men and women in uniform who have been accused or convicted of a crime while serving this country in the war on terror? You say that ILLEGALS are here doing jobs that most Americans will not and that we need them so you are willing to look the other way with a little fine or whatever so that they keep coming and keep working? OK, our military members do a job that very few Americans (and the ILLEGALS you love) are willing to do. They put their lives on the line each and every day. Some of them have been accused of crimes because they made a dog bark at a terrorist or killed some guy they thought was a bad person. These soldiers are the ones people like Ted Kennedy excoriate in the media and the true criminals he holds up and praises with an amnesty package.

I demand that ALL military members charged with a crime that was alleged to have been committed in the theater of operations be given the opportunity to pay a $5 fine and leave the war zone for a year before they return.

Senator Graham, I have come up with my own plan and Senator Chambliss, I have a complete understanding of it. Any member of the Republican Party who votes for this will be targeted in the next election. We will make ILLEGAL immigration (particularly AMNESTY) the sole issue with regard to those of you who vote for it regardless of whether it passes or not. Vote for it and you are a target in the next election. You were rejected in the last election because you lacked leadership ability. Screw this up and you will be looking for other jobs. You might not realize it but the vast majority who disapprove of this will be voting.

It is pretty easy to understand but let me make it clear, NO AMNESTY.

We could get the first 100 people who walk into Wal Mart and they would do a better job in the Senate than you people.

UPDATE: I forgot to add that I have decided to stop donating money to any candidate or to the RNC and I have encouraged family and friends to do the same.

Ron Paul Part II

Ron Paul is an interesting candidate and certainly has garnered some Internet support. While traditional or more scientific polls have him near the bottom of the pack the on line or unscientific polls show him near the top. This might be, as some of his supporters claim, because he has wide support among the tech savvy or it might be that those who support him vote a number of times in these polls. Whatever the reason, this second tier candidate has been mentioned more than he likely would have had it not been for his appearance in the last debate. He made a statement that upset many in the party by claiming that the reason they attacked us is because we have been bombing Iraq for ten years. This statement received a strong rebuff by Rudy Giuliani who claimed never to have heard of such a thing. Giuliani’s statement ignores the 9/11 Commission Report and other sources who claim that blow-back for our actions was one of the reasons we were attacked.

While I certainly agree that our foreign policy is likely to have ticked off those who do not agree with us I also believe that radical Islam has been looking to pick a fight with us for decades in order to beat us and impose their twisted religious views on us. Regardless of the bombing of Iraq for ten years we were likely to have been attacked anyway for nothing more than our support for Israel and its right to survive. Radical Islam believes that Israel is not legitimate and has no right to exist. That twisted ideology extends to those who support Israel and the right of its people to exist and to defend themselves against attack.

Ron Smith of WBAL had a great piece on Ron Paul and his statements. The article, Love Him or Loathe Him, Ron Paul Speaks his Mind points out:

As you might or might not know, Big Media jealously safeguards the status quo, ridiculing anyone who might, Like Dr. Paul, call into question the basic precepts of modern federal government, which include agreement by everyone who can be taken seriously that the U.S. is a special nation, a gift to the world, tasked with making sure that all other nations defer to it and, above all, do what we tell them to do, or else.

This is a true enough statement and one only needs look at Howard Dean to see it in practice. The big boys in government, regardless of party, and those in media hate when the apple cart is upset. Dean bucked the status quo and his over exuberant scream became his undoing though similar types of display by people such as Ted Kennedy have had little impact on their careers. I do not agree with Howard Dean’s politics but I do believe that the media and those running behind him at the time focused on his outburst as a means to shut him up. The left was so afraid he might actually run again that they made him the head of the DNC. If his outburst made him unsuitable as the face of the Democrats why did they make him the face of their party? They know that many people liked the freshness of Dean as he bucked conventional thinking. Ron Paul is such a candidate.

I certainly have not decided who to support in the next campaign. It is far to early to throw support behind any one person until there has been time to flesh out opinions and to separate the contenders from the also rans. I believe that Ron Paul, as Smith indicated and much like Dean before him, speaks his mind and unfortunately his thoughts run counter to the conventional thinkers in politics. I believe we need new faces and new ideas in politics. It is becoming increasingly more difficult to determine what party politicians belong to and for all the infighting those already in office seem to work together to help maintain things just as they are. Paul seems to espouse beliefs that many have but that the old boy network does not want to hear. As Smith points out in his piece:

Whatever the case, to me it’s just refreshing to see a man of principle stand tall and unafraid in the face of being called a party apostate and traitor and calmly state his case before a hostile audience. It’s uncharacteristic of modern politicians because it represents actually[sic] bravery as opposed to crowd-pleasing bravado.

I have no doubt that Ron Paul is a man of principle and that he speaks what is on his mind. He is doing it during the primaries when others save what they really think for the general election and this, like in the case of Dean, might mean he will never win any office higher than the one he holds. I do not suggest that he should not be who he is and that he should not stand on principle but his statement in the debate allowed Giuliani to go on the attack and to deflect the criticisms he has had on issues like abortion and gun control. Right now, people are talking about this and ignoring the hot topic of Giuliani and abortion that was in the limelight only a week ago. It was suggested that the focus on abortion would hurt Giuliani in the debate but Paul gave him a way out.

The establishment, consisting of both major parties and the media, does not like people who rock the boat and Paul has shown up as a Category 5 hurricane. His opinions, while researched and accurate, threaten the business as usual government and unfortunately for him, he will have to overcome the attacks from that entity as well as the others running in the race.

It has been suggested that Paul should not be allowed to attend any further debates and I think that is a terrible tact to take. What would be the uproar if Conservatives stated that Rudy Giuliani should not be allowed to attend debates because he believes in abortion rights? The purpose of debates is to allow people to put out their ideas and to let the public decide which candidate they want to represent them. If Paul is so contrary to public opinion and his ideas are so out of touch, why silence him? People are usually silenced out of fear. Is the Republican Party (and the establishment for that matter) afraid that Paul might get support? That would be the most likely reason to silence him.

Conservatives are looking for a person who espouses traditional Conservative values and Paul certainly has the credentials. As I stated, it is far too early for me to decide who to support but I want to be able to look at all the candidates and not just the ones the establishment thinks I should see. I like Fred Thompson but until he gets in the race I can not tell what kind of leader he will be and how firm he is in his Conservative beliefs. Regardless, Paul deserves to be heard and the people deserve to be able to hear him. It is the people, not the establishment, who candidates are elected to represent and the people deserve to hear the thoughts of every person interested in holding office.

To allow the establishment to decide who we may hear is un-American and smacks of Communism. I may never vote for Paul and he might not be around when the time comes but he deserves to be heard just as much as any other candidate.

Ron Smith’s show page does not have Digg. If you like his piece and want to let others read what he has to say, consider linking to his piece or Digging this one so that others might see his work.

I am interested in what you have to say so please feel free to comment as often as you like.

The Bill is Amnesty, Plain and Simple

The Senate has come up with a scheme to help ILLEGAL immigrants stay here legally and become citizens. This bill has wide support across parties and was hailed by President Bush who claimed it was not amnesty. Where are all the left wing nut jobs who said he lied us into war? The idea that this is not amnesty is either a lie or the utterances of delusional people who are more concerned with votes than our country. The bill allows people who broke the law to get here to obtain a special Visa and then to work on a path to citizenship. I heard Ted Kennedy say in an interview that this bill provides a path to citizenship for those who came here, work hard, and followed the rules. No Senator, these people did NOT follow the rules. The rules are that it is ILLEGAL to sneak across the border and since they did that they did not follow the rules. Then again, who expects Kennedy to know about rules after what he did to Mary Jo?

This bill will be an economic disaster for this country. There will be millions upon millions of people who bring family members here and start drawing Social Security and other welfare benefits. Most of these people do not have health insurance and that will not change. They will sponge off welfare programs to get medical care or they will rack up big bills visiting the emergency rooms across the country. The Social Security system is already in dire straights and will be insolvent by the middle of the next decade without the added burden of millions of ILLEGALS being paid money that they are not entitled to. This burden will result in a decrease in benefits and an increase in the Social Security tax as well as likely increase the retirement age and will forever end the idea that people might someday actually be able to invest THEIR money in accounts that they can control and pass on to loved ones.

It is time for America to wake up and see what is happening. It is time to call each elected official and voice objection to this bill. It is time to ensure that we the people have a say in this process and that we end it before it brings on the downfall of our nation. We do not need an amnesty bill because there are already laws that dictate how people enter this country and we need to follow them. What makes anyone think that these Bozos in office will follow this plan? They will do just what they did last time and that is allow more people to sneak in and then grant them amnesty at some future date when we again have another crisis. I will not support any candidate who votes for this bill and I will ensure that this issue is raised time and again when they start begging me for money through phone calls and the mail. The RNC will not get another dime until the Republican Party stands up and opposes the ILLEGAL infestation of our country and actually does something to prosecute those who break the law. McCain can forget about winning the nomination as can any other ass who votes for this mess.

However, in the spirit of their intent I have changed my mind with regard to Paris Hilton. Those who read this blog know I wrote a post indicating that she got what she deserved but now I think she deserves amnesty. She drove while intoxicated and then broke her probation two or three times. That is no where near the number of times some of these ILLEGALS have been caught sneaking in and the Congress is ready to hand them the keys to the country so I say screw it, Paris deserves amnesty. As a matter of fact, why don’t we just release everyone who is in prison and give them amnesty as well? They have done nothing worse than the people who are invading us so why not ignore their transgressions as well?

It looks like Bill Clinton’s last minute flurry of pardons will be a footnote in history if this new bill gets to the President’s desk because in one fell swoop Bush will have pardoned more than 12 million people.

Westboro Jackasses Represent Satan

The members of the Westboro Baptist Church have been seen time and again protesting the funerals of our fallen war heroes. They are terribly deranged people who believe that our heroes are killed because God is mad at us for having homosexuals in our society. Their mindless hate filled prattle is filled with anti gay rhetoric and is nothing more than hate speech disguised as religious discussion. These people are a bunch of inbred idiots who have delusions of grandeur. They believe that God has chosen them, out of all the really saint like people in this world, to speak for Him. God does not need a bunch of people who are not as bright as a 2 watt bulb speaking for him.

Now these cretins are planning on protesting the funeral of Jerry Falwell. The Westboro Satanic Cult believes that Falwell was a sell out who had compassion for sinners. Maybe in all of their hate filled rage these idiots did not read the part of the Bible where Jesus had compassion and love for sinners. Some of the Apostles were sinners. It was Jesus who told us the healthy are not in need of a physician, it is the sick who need help. This he likened to sinners. Those were the ones who Jesus sought. Falwell was loved or hated depending upon who you ask but one thing is for sure, he was a hell of a lot more religious than these devil worshipers.

The members of the Westboro Baptist Church are nothing more than Satanic worshipers who are doing the work of the devil himself. They tarnish the memory of our heroes by protesting their funerals and blaming them for the sins of our society and they attack others with whom they disagree. This is all the work of Satan and all the members of that cult are nothing more than Satan in the flesh.

Or, to paraphrase Hugo Chavez, I smell sulfur.
