Fraud or no Fraud?

Both political parties are quite fickle when it comes to the voters and whether or not fraud exists during elections. In 2000 the Democrats swore there were many problems with voting, especially in Florida where a lot of people learned a new word; disenfranchised. Many Democrats still view George Bush as an illegitimate president because, according to them, many blacks and other minorities were not allowed to vote due t Republican dirty tricks. Republicans played this down and said there were no problems but Democrats pushed for voter reform. Despite research that showed Democrats engaged in more dirty tricks than Republicans, the Dems nonetheless pushed for reform.
This prattle continued in 2004. During that election cycle people like Michael Moore had folks with video cameras recording voter fraud. Armies of lawyers were on stand by and a hot line was established so people could report how terribly they were being treated by Republicans. Ohio was the hot spot and Democrats alleged fraud again. They claimed that blacks were disenfranchised despite the fact that millions more blacks voted than did in prior elections. Republicans said it was on the up and up.
In 2006 the Democrats won and all of the sudden there were no allegations of fraud. The Dems were happy with the results and since they won everything must have been done correctly. Now we have Democrats saying that allegations of fraud are overblown and the Republicans pushing for voter reform. Democrats say that reform will disenfranchise minorities but don’t indicate how that squares with their allegations of disenfranchisement in 2000 when there were no tough voter rules.
Both parties are fickle and believe that there is no fraud when they win and lots of fraud when they lose. Sure, fraud exists but it is not as terrible as either party makes it out to be. Any fraud is wrong and if we would actually put people in jail it might stop. Regardless, there needs to be some voter reform. It is not too much to ask for a photo ID in order to vote. We require ID to buy alcohol, tobacco, and to board an airplane but we will not require it in order to protect one of the fundamental freedoms we enjoy and a process that selects who will lead us.
It does not make sense to leave this process open to fraud. People vote more than once, they vote under different names and they vote absentee and then show up on election day. This needs to stop because it hurts everyone, regardless of party. I am not happy with the results of the last election but I accept that as what the majority of those who voted wanted and I move on. I believe in the process when it runs right and as long as it is done fairly we can accept what happens and live with it. The appearance of impropriety leaves a bitter taste in people’s mouths and gives them reason to question the results of an election.
Let’s demand that voter reform include a requirement for each voter to show an ID and stiff penalties for those caught cheating. Our fundamental freedoms only have value if we protect them.

More Global Warming News to Ponder

Al Gore and all his buddies in Hollywood and on the Liberal left have this idea that the Earth has a fever and that we are all going to burn to death or melt like the witch in the Wizard of Oz. Global warming is their game and their desire is to earn billions of dollars by imposing tough standards on all of us with regard to energy use. I am all for conserving energy because it lowers the bill I have to pay. I have the energy saving light bulbs in my house (where they can be safely placed) and I turn out lights I am not using but I do not want to be taxed to death to pay for something that the planet Mars has proven is not man made and that history shows is cyclic in nature and will not result in the cataclysmic destruction of the world as we know it.
Here is some news from the world of global warming. It is Spring, the time the birds sing and flowers bloom and we homeowners can get out our gas powered mowers and emit CO2. It is also the time that baseball makes its return to the national scene. In Ohio, the Cleveland Indians had to cancel all their games this weekend and the Commissioner of baseball is considering canceling all their home games this week and moving them to Los Angeles. Why, you ask? Because Cleveland had a blizzard that dumped 16 inches of snow on the ground. A blizzard in the Spring hardly seems like the result of global warming though the believers will blame it on that very thing.
Some Spring (read Easter) festivities had to be canceled or were held with folks bundled up like they were going ice fishing and this happened all across the country. Additionally, Charlotte North Carolina had the coldest April day in its history (or at least the history of when they started keeping track of such things). It flurried during the New york Yankee?Baltimore Oriole baseball game yesterday (the Orioles won) and news reports of Easter celebrations showed people dressed more appropriately for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.
Looks like every time Al Gore and his minions start trumping up global warming Mother Nature blasts us with more cold weather. Perhaps the planet does have a fever but if it does Mother Nature seems to be cooling it off quite nicely.

Affirmative Action Not Good When it Hurts Blacks

Affirmative action is nothing more than reverse discrimination. There was a time, I suppose, that it was necessary in order to reduce the effects of slavery in this country and to give black children a leg up in the college process. This has morphed into reverse discrimination in that students are selected, and denied, based on the color of their skin. The NAACP, UNCF, and every other organization that supports blacks were up in arms when there was discussion about ending affirmative action. They believe that it is racist to end a discriminatory program that doles out college seats based on race. In other words, so long as they were getting the benefits it was not considered racism or bigotry.
In the state of Maryland a new kind of affirmative action plan is in the works. The state wants to offer in-state tuition to undocumented immigrants, the euphemism for ILLEGAL aliens. This is a sort or affirmative action in that everyone else must play by the rules; whites, blacks, legal immigrants, they must all pay the tuition rates appropriate for their situation. Giving ILLEGALS a leg up, in effect, reduces the number of seats available to any other group of people. This new affirmative action does not sit well with some blacks who see their race as the only entitled one.
Former Governor Robert Ehrlich and his wife Kendall host a radio program on Saturday mornings on WBAL. Democratic Delegate Emmett Burns called in to that show to explain why he voted against the bill that would give ILLEGALS the advantage. According to Burns the program would take seats away from African American students who he claims are under represented in the state colleges. I will not debate those claims because that is not important to the argument though I would venture to guess that blacks attend college at a higher percentage than their percentage of the population in the state.
In any event, Burns decries the fact that another group is getting the advantage. Later in his call he explains that “to offer a benefit to illegals is wrong” the fact is, he misses the point completely. To offer a benefit to anyone based on a special category (in this case immigration status, in other cases race) is just wrong. I am not shocked but I am dismayed that Burns would cry that the unfair advantage that blacks enjoyed is being taken by another unfair advantage. I would have agree with him if he had said that entitlements based upon race are bigoted and racist and should be eliminated completely.
I do not know Burns but I imagine he would be one of the first to scream foul if the state had tried to eliminate affirmative action as a “wrong” practice. He only objects because he feels it hurts African-American students. The truth is offering special treatment to ILLEGALS hurts all individuals who are here legally and, in essence, make the taxpayer foot the bill for the ILLEGALS and for their own children.
Perhaps now that Mr. Burns has seen the light on the bigotry of affirmative action, he can join in the fight to eliminate the racist practice completely.

Invasion of the iPod People

Those who follow the Democrats will no longer be pod people, they will be iPod people…
The Democrats are famous for encouraging dependence on government. That is how they continue in office. They brainwash people with handouts and those people, in turn, breed offspring raised to depend on government. The whole philosophy of liberals is the redistribution of wealth by taxing people and then using that money to give things to others. Some social programs certainly have merit but by and large they are a waste of money. The government has never run anything efficiently. Look at Social Security and it is easy to see that the government takes in billions and that money is wasted while worthless IOUs are placed in the cash drawer. Any money that remains earns paltry interest while those who invest in the private sector make much more and are better prepared for retirement. But by extorting money from us the government can dangle it as a carrot when ever there is a crisis and they fear losing office. Democrats love to remind seniors how the terrible Republicans will take SS away. This also ensures that people will retire without great means and will continue to depend on government.
The Democrats in Michigan have decided that they want to start early in the reeducation of our youth. Michigan Democrats want to teach the youth of the state that they are owed things and that the government should buy them those things. There is a bill that would require the state to buy every school kid an iPod. Now I have an iPod that I bought with my own money. It is a nice gadget and I enjoy listening to the music I have on it. I also know that it is a luxury item and has no value other than entertainment (and keeping Steve Jobs in cash). Michigan already has a budget crisis and they are swimming in so much red ink they will never get back in the black, at least not as long as Democrats are in charge and not as long as they come up with ideas to buy kids things they do not need.
I suppose one could argue that they are encouraging kids to go to school. I don’t buy it. If you want them to go to school take them to the local jail and introduce them to the uneducated pukes that are living behind bars. The state should not be buying luxury items for anyone, period. This state should not be adding any more debt to the books because they will never be fiscally sound. I just wonder what Michigan will do next to waste money and mold young minds into the liberal mindset of entitlements. “I deserve an iPod now give it up and while you are at it give me my welfare check.” What will be next? Will they buy kids a cable box so they have cable TV? Hell, it is Michigan, why don’t they just buy each kid a car when he gets his license (though wouldn’t a program like that keep kids in school?) Why not get them all a laptop while we are at it because they will need some method of uploading their songs. Then we need to get them broadband access so they can steal buy music online to put in the iPod. It will be an endless cycle of give me, give me, give me just like it is at the federal level with adults who have bought into the liberal philosophy.
Maryland is getting close to this kind of stupidity. There is a very liberal jackass in the Governor’s mansion and a very liberal Democratic majority in the legislature. They are passing every liberal bill they can and they are sharpening their talons so they can sink them into the back of the taxpayer. By this time next year Marylanders who actually work and do fairly well will pay higher taxes on everything. I would not be surprised if they tax the air we breathe (and tax us again because when we exhale we release CO2 and cause global warming). Maryland is providing college tuition for ILLEGALS. Yep, citizens pay the full price but the ILLEGALS get another free ride. We already let them get driver’s licenses (so we can track them, says the idiots in Annapolis).
The Governor is looking to spend millions in taxpayer money to bail out hospitals and will hurt us with the new living wage proposal, that amazingly only helps union workers working on state contracts. The blow hards in Annapolis are looking at Massachusetts to model our universal health care (another right like the iPod) and they already adopted the California emission standards for our cars. Yep, it will not be long before some idiot in Annapolis decides that we need to give the chirren iPods and every other gadget. This will help the poor parents so they won’t go broke at Christmas. It will also raise a fresh generation of people with mush for brains who follow the Democratic Party with their hands out; “Please sir, may I have some more.”
The Editorial in the Detroit News about the iPods in Michigan ended with this:
The only responsible option is to bring spending in line with current revenues. The mission must be to expand the tax base, rather than to expand taxes, by crafting a budget that encourages growth.
We won’t get there by wasting money on early Christmas presents for Michigan kids.
This is absolutely correct except Michigan is rapidly being taken over by Muslims. They would not appreciate the iPod, to which they are entitled by the way, being considered a Christmas present.
Wake up America…

Cindy Scripture, Sheehan’s Bible Thumping

A problem arises when people who are not versed in the Bible and the teachings of Jesus try to invoke scripture to score political points. Cindy Sheehan had such a situation recently when she took her Momma Moonbat crusade on a tour against the Democrats, the party she loved and supported in the last election. Yes, the Dems promised her they would bring the troops home and end the war and they got a lot of free publicity as Momma Moonbat advertised for them. She sat in a ditch in Texas to protest the President and the war (I wonder if she will go to the Dominican to protest Hillary and her vote to authorize the war).
I am no Biblical scholar, though I imagine I have read the Bible more times than Sheehan. I am sure I have been to more Bible study than she as well. What does that mean? Nothing really, except I can recognize when she is using the Bible as a political tool rather than a tool that teaches us how to guide our lives. Here is what Cindy had to say about the Dems:
“Our message is: Today is Good Friday, when Jesus Christ was killed by the Roman Empire. He rose again on Sunday, came back to life. But our loved ones won’t be coming home” from Iraq, she told reporters.
The protesters will tell Bush “to end this madness for our families,” said Sheehan, who took a tough line against Democrats who harnessed anger at the Iraq war to recapture the US Congress in November.
“They got there and they betrayed the grass roots that put them back there,” she said. “We can’t depend on the Democrats.”
She reports that Jesus rose again and came back to life but that our loved ones (the war dead) will not be coming back home. According to scripture, they are home. They have gone home to the Father. Jesus rose from the dead and appeared on Earth but he ascended to Heaven to be home with the Father. Now this might be a nit picky little thing but the fact is, Sheehan used the name of Jesus and one of the most holy Christian holidays to score political points and the reference she made makes no sense in the context of the Bible.
This is not to diminish her loss in any way though I believe that she is mentally unstable and has milked the death of her son to push her own political agenda. She is pushing to be remembered, in future history books, as the person who put and end to the war. She will be remembered but in the same fondness with which Veterans afford Jane Fonda. In any event, Sheehan is mad that the Democrats ran on a platform of “we will immediately bring the troops home.” This resonated with the moonbats and they lapped up the Kool-aid while being blindly led astray. Now that the Dems have not done what they said they would (on many issues, mind you) the anti-war nuts like Cindy are up in arms. Sheehan is becoming even more unhinged than she usually is. As an aside, I heard he in DC when I was with the Gathering of Eagles and she is even more irritating in person than she is on TV.
Sheehan could learn a lot about Christianity by actually reading a Bible. That would be a better activity than protesting and looking foolish. BTW Cindy, yes the Romans put Jesus to death but they did so at the request of the people (who only a week prior worshiped him when he entered town). Pilate offered them a chance to save Jesus by allowing them to select him as the criminal that was released according to tradition. The people chose Barabas, a bad criminal, over Jesus and the Romans put him to death for the people, not because Jesus had committed a crime against Rome. Your reference to the Empire is carefully worded to equivocate Bush’s terms in office to an Empire.
Cindy would do a lot better by spending her time mending fences in her own family and moving on in her life. Her son died on a combat mission he volunteered for in the service he volunteered to join. He is a hero and is probably spinning in his grave because his mother is feeding her ego at his expense.
