O’Malley Does Not Have Courage of His Convictions
Mar 4, 2007 Uncategorized
Governor O’Malley testified recently about the death penalty and how it did not work. He said that in states without the death penalty the murder rate was lower than in states that had it and that the penalty might cause an increase in violent crime. O’Malley claims to be opposed to the death penalty because, in part, it has no deterrent value. Though he wanted a complete ban on the death penalty, he is willing to compromise:
Governor O’Malley is considering a compromise that would limit the death penalty in Maryland to just a few types of offenders — such as inmates who kill prison guards. WBAL
I have written on this before but I need to point out this hypocrisy. If the death penalty has no deterrent value then why have it in certain cases? The truth is, they believe it will deter inmates from killing correction officers or it will deter criminals from killing cops. It either has deterrent value or it does not. O’Malley and his minions can not have it both ways, though I doubt an electorate that voted him into office has enough sense to view things this logically.
I am also opposed to the idea that correctional officers or police officers have more value than others in society. Why is it that a cop killed in the line of duty has more value than the person standing on the corner waiting for the bus. In reality, the cop has a gun and other weapons and can use his radio to call for a lot of other cops to come to his aid. You can bet the farm that more of them will come and a lot faster than they will when John Q Public dials 911.
I believe in the death penalty. I don’t really care about deterrent value because it is a punishment. It is punishment that is given when a criminal takes another person’s life in the commission of a crime. That person pays his debt and he will never commit a crime again. If it happens to make other criminals think twice then that is sauce for the goose. Regardless of whether we use it or not, the state needs to be consistent.
Either we have a total ban on the death penalty or it is made available for all cases of murder. No person has more value than another so the Governor and his henchmen need to stop playing games. They need to exhibit some testicular fortitude. It is an all or nothing situation Marty. We have a death penalty or we do not and that means NO EXCEPTIONS. I don’t know how to make it any clearer.
The Governor seems to believe that we are all safe and that it is OK to let murderers live. I guess when you have an armed detail guarding you it is easy to believe everyone is as safe.

If They Had Executed This Murderer
Mar 4, 2007 Uncategorized
Maryland’s Governor and his Democratically controlled legislature want to abolish the death penalty. They believe that it serves no purpose and in keeping with their liberal ideology, believe that criminals should be rehabilitated. They do not care about closure for the victims of murder, unless of course, the victims are police officers or other members of special groups. Arguments have been made that murderers who receive life without parole get a reasonable sentence and will not be a threat to society. This assurance comes despite the fact that life without parole is like a lifetime ban in baseball. Who did not see this coming?
A correctional officer is at Shock Trauma after he was stabbed Friday afternoon by an inmate at the maximum security Maryland House of Correction in Jessup.
The Department of Public Safety says the officer was stabbed multiple times by an inmate. The suspect is a 38-year-old convicted murderer who’s serving a life sentence.
According to broadcast reports, the 27-year-old officer was conscious and breathing when he was taken to Shock Trauma. The inmate was reportedly on his way to dinner and was alone with the officer when the officer was attacked with a makeshift knife. WBAL
If they had executed this murderer instead of giving him life in prison he would not have attacked a correctional officer. What will they do to him now? Perhaps give him another long sentence. I can see how that will affect him seeing how LIFE in prison had not impact.
As Forrest Gump once said, “Stupid is as stupid does.”

This Will Confuse Al Gore
Mar 4, 2007 Uncategorized
Al Gore and the global warming zealots have blamed everything on global warming despite a lack of evidence. Hurricane Katrina-global warming, tsunami-global warming, blizzards-global warming, polar bears with insomnia, you guessed it- global warming. I think gang violence and ILLEGAL immigration is also linked to global warming because if it were not so damned warm these ILLEGALS could not cross the border and gangs would be too cold to fight.
Global warming is a theory that has some scientists who believe in it and others who dispute it. The problem is, the left has declared it a done deal that is real and has moved on to “solving” the problem. This is what they do whenever they lack scientific study or other evidence, they declare they are right and move on. We will end up spending billions of dollars to make people who buy their way out of what they preach feel good about themselves. Unfortunately, their symposiums and other global warming gatherings keep getting canceled because of ice and snow storms. It is the ultimate irony. And then there is this, with regard to the recent tornadoes:
In this case, the extremely cold US was probably a contributing factor. Tornadoes in the US form when a front of dry, cold air descending from the north meets warm, moist air coming up from the south. Sometimes, a body of the cold air slides over the top of the warm air, trapping it underneath.
This creates unstable atmospheric conditions, and if there is enough energy in the system, the warm air will punch through the denser cold air above, triggering thunderstorms. The next step required is for the winds to be changing their speed and direction with altitude. “If there’s enough rotation you get a tornado,” says Bolton (see graphic).
Bolton says a depression has indeed been drawing the cold northern air down across the southern US. At the same time, the anticlockwise motion of the depression drew warm, moist air in from the Florida coast. News Scientist
So now it is cold air that brings about the tornadoes. People who listened in school (are you as smart as a fifth grader?) know how thunderstorms and tornadoes are formed, or at least what conditions must be present for them to have the chance. But you can be sure the global warming crowd will trump up these tornadoes as more proof of global warming and even more reason to take our hard earned money in the form of taxes.
I am one of the people that global warming tree huggers refer to as a denier. This is the disparaging way they try to shame people into joining their side. It will not work in my case because I believe the jury is still out on global warming and I believe that very little man can do will change mother nature. However, if we accept as true the whole global warming argument then I have a solution that does not involve buying offsets of soaking taxpayers.
Pass a law that says politicians (current and former) are not allowed to speak. The amount of hot air that will suddenly stop being spewed into the atmosphere will cause near ice age conditions. That should about do it until the Sun supernovas and wipes out the planet. I bet it will be really hot just before that happens…

Die Cheney is OK, Faggot Edwards is Not
Mar 4, 2007 Uncategorized
Did you ever notice that the left is famous for fighting for rights? They are the champions of the people’s rights and they will fight for your right to (how come the Beastie Boys come to mind) do whatever you want and to say whatever you want, but only so long as what you say or do agrees with what they think you should say or do. Confused yet?
The left is all about free speech, especially when they are saying something that is offensive. It is their right. Look at Julio Pino at Kent State University. The school said that this guy has a right to free speech even though his free speech was anti American and he claimed to be helping the people trying to kill us. Look at all the wackos at the Huffington Post. They wrote some vile items about Dick Cheney after what was originally reported as a failed assassination attempt. The Hufpos were happy and were so nasty that she shut down the comments. Bill Maher defended the right of those commenting and said that Huffington should not have shut down the comments because it violated their right to free speech. Then Maher made the same argument and that is, the world would be better off is Cheney had been killed.
I will just give a cursory mention about free speech. People do not have free speech any where they want at any time they want. The First Amendment says that the government will not make a law abridging free speech. Huffington owns the website and can say what goes up and what does not, just like I can at this site. You have no free speech here, you have no free speech at work. Your boss can tell you what you are and are not allowed to say or talk about. This is where many people make the mistake in this country. They assume they have free speech any where and any time and that just is not true. No regular citizen in this country is required to allow you to speak.
Maher and those at Huffington as well as the tin foil hat brigade at Kos all had their circular self gratification party going on and they were really hoping the VP had been killed. All of them were making vile remarks and expressing sorrow that he was NOT killed. Maher says this is free speech and they should be allowed to say it and he even agrees with it. So, can someone tell me, if free speech includes everything and if it is sacrosanct why are all these nimrods out there upset that Ann Coulter used the word Faggot to refer to John Edwards? Will Maher go on the air and tell people to leave her alone because she has rights and will all the moonbats defend her right to free speech? I believe it is more likely that Maher will have a show discussing how terrible she is for saying it.
This hypocrisy extends to the right as well. Wild Bill points out that the folks at Hot Air are really taking issue with Coulter for calling Edwards a Faggot and yet, Hot Air recently had a video depicting Edwards as My Little Pony (Silky Pony). The top Republican Presidential candidates have all weighed in on the issue. Why didn’t any of them have the testicular fortitude to say “I don’t agree with what she said but I will die defending her right to say it”? At least Obama had some guts when he had his dust up with Hillary. When asked about an apology for Geffen’s remarks he wanted to know why he should I apologize for what someone else said.
I don’t necessarily disagree with what Coulter said but I think that she said it in the wrong forum. I would certainly not have used the word Faggot when feminine would have suited the same purpose and been more accurate. He is not really a Faggot unless he is a closet Queer because he does have a wife and children. On the other hand, he primps in the mirror and always has that perfectly coiffed hair and he looks like a girly man so feminine would have been a good word.
In any event, the idiots who are crying about Coulter’s use of the word Faggot should try one of two things. Either clean up your own house or allow everyone the same right to Free Speech that you allow for yourself.

Was it Totally Their Fault?
Mar 2, 2007 Military
Army Secretary Francis J. Harvey resigned today, one day after relieving Maj. Gen. George Weightman of his command at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC). General Weightman was relieved, in part, because of the conditions of the guest accommodations at the facility. I realize that the commander is ultimately responsible for what happens and if the conditions were his fault then he deserved to be relieved. I question whether the facility was in this state because of him or because of the Department of Defense.
WRAMC is on the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) list and is scheduled to be shut down. Operations will be moved to Bethesda and that facility will be renamed Walter Reed. Since WRAMC was on the BRAC list it is possible that command was told not to make any unnecessary repairs and not to spend money on a facility that was shutting down. If the guest house was not used, it seems to me that it would fall under such a mandate. The casualties of the war necessitated using the facilities and they were in disrepair.
I do not know the entire story but I think a little digging is required. If Weightman is being made a scapegoat because of reports about disrepair and those conditions are a result of BRAC then people need to know that. Like I said, if he was responsible for this then he needed to go but if not, I would hate to see his career end like this to appease people who are up in arms about a situation that might have been caused by DOD decisions.
Amazingly, when the BRAC list came out I know of more than a few liberals who applauded the closings and said that the property could be used for better things than the military. Now those same people complain because a facility that was being closed was not in tip-top shape. There are reasons they decided to close it and perhaps the cost benefit ratio of the repairs is one of them.
We need this story to be looked into just a little bit deeper than the surface strike and knee-jerk reactions we have seen.
