A Tale Of Two Race Stories
Apr 28, 2014 Commentary, Opinion
Cliven Bundy was alleged to have uttered racist things about black people, or as he called them, colored and Negro. An 80 year old man is probably more likely to use such terms since those are the ones used in his youth and terms that blacks once said were socially acceptable. That might explain why we have a United NEGRO College Fund and the National Association for the Advancement of COLORED People.
Bundy’s words, while not eloquent by any stretch of the imagination, were not racist. One who listens to the entire message and not just the edited one can see Bundy is discussing an overreaching government that has destroyed minority families. His words might not have been as beautiful as those delivered by a teleprompter reader but they were accurate.
Harry Reid was quick to jump up and call Bundy a racist for the terms he used. Yes, the same Harry Reid who said Barack Obama did not have a Negro dialect unless he wanted to…
The goal, of course, is to demonize Bundy so the next time SWAT Teams arrive people will let them have their way at the Bundy ranch.
Sean Hannity (who made sure to tell us not to jump to conclusions in the George Zimmerman case) was quick to distance himself from Bundy as was Glenn Beck and a number of Republicans. They were too concerned with their ratings or opinion polls to step back and look at the big picture. They jumped to conclusions.
I don’t know Bundy. He might be a racist though people who know him (including black folks) say he is not. One thing I know is that a reasonable person cannot conclude he is a racist by the remarks he made.
This leads us to a guy named Donald Sterling, an 81 year old man who owns the LA Clippers professional basketball team.
Sterling was recorded making very racist remarks to his 23 year old girlfriend (yes, 23). He was caught telling a woman he is dating, one who is young enough to be his granddaughter, that he does not like to see pictures of her with black people and he does not want her bringing black people to his games but he was OK with her hanging out with them or sleeping with them (quotes from recording in above link).
This has sparked an outrage among a lot of people and rightly so. There is no doubt from the recording that Sterling made very racist remarks and he should be held accountable for them.
Paul Begala, a Democrat, warned conservatives not to jump in to defend this guy. Begala was not really informed because Sterling is a Democrat and records show he donated to Democrat politicians (but not to Obama).
In other words, Sterling is one of the Democrat’s own. This should not come as a surprise since the racists are overwhelmingly among the Democrats.
Harry Reid, Joe Biden, and Bill Clinton have all made racially charged comments but since they are Democrats it was never pursued. Sterling is a Democrat who will be taken to the woodshed because the left cannot paint him as part of the right wing, though Begala tried.
Snoop Dogg had a racist rant to denounce Sterling’s racism (yes Snoop, calling someone a redneck white bread is racist). One does not stop racism by using more racism but then again, Snoop is not the sharpest tool in the shed.
Al Sharpton is up in arms (SURPRISE!!) and he wants the NBA to take Sterling’s team away from him. How exactly would that be allowed? Does Sharpton think people’s property can be taken because they say things that are deplorable? If so Sharpton should not have any property because his history is filled with deplorable racist remarks.
Then again, he was an informant for the FBI. This might explain why the government is not going after him for the millions he owes in taxes while it spends millions to collect from Bundy.
I digress. If you want Sterling to pay then don’t go to his games. Don’t buy his team’s merchandise and don’t watch his team on TV. Players can refuse to sign with him and those on the team can go to other teams. If he loses money he will be forced to take action, action that might include selling the team.
Sharpton will be stirring the pot and calling for his network to protest and riot. He must be short on funds so he is fortunate to have this issue to use to raise money (or extort it). It was reprehensible but having Sharpton in the lead on an issue does not do it any good.
Look on the bright side. At least Sterling did not call them coloreds or Negroes…
Cave canem!
Never surrender, never submit.
