Maryland Suffers A Brown Out

Anthony Brown was supposed to waltz into the Governor’s Mansion. He spent eight years in Martin O’Malley’s shadow and it was his time. In a state where Democrats hold a greater than a 2:1 lead over Republicans it was just a formality. In Maryland the Democrat Primary is considered the general election because whatever Democrat wins the primary wins the general.
But a funny thing happened on the way to Annapolis. Lt. Governor Anthony Brown hit a shockwave in the form of businessman Larry Hogan. Hogan campaigned on economic issues and reducing taxes. Hogan vowed to get rid of as many of the forty plus tax increases put in place by O’Malley/Brown.
Brown, for his part, failed to campaign on what he would do and instead chose to attack his opponent. Brown accused Hogan of everything short of the Crucifixion of Jesus and claimed he would be bad for the state.
Some of Brown’s ads were outright lies and used fear to persuade people that Hogan would have “assault” rifles lying around all over the place. Brown also misled people on his military service by showing himself piloting helicopters while a narrator talks about Brown answering the call of duty.
Brown did indeed fly helicopters and he did indeed deploy to the Middle East. But he was a pilot on active duty and deployed while a reservist. As a reservist he was a JAG officer (Army Lawyer). There is no evidence he piloted helicopters while deployed as a lawyer.
Who does he think he is, Harm Rabb?
In any event, the O’Malley/Brown tenure destroyed the state, increased unemployment, raised taxes (including a tax on rain water runoff), and busted the budget while driving good businesses out of the state. Brown was solely responsible for the failure of the health care exchange and the millions of wasted dollars the project cost taxpayers.
People were fed up and they took it out at the polls by delivering a crushing defeat for Brown who lost by about 5* points. The defeat was a referendum on the tenure of O’Malley whose aspirations of being president took a huge hit (as if he actually had a chance). All in all it was a two-fer with Brown losing his bid to be governor and O’Malley losing nearly any chance of becoming president.
Brown is out and it looks like he might have to sign up for government health care and get a real job.
Hogan on the other hand, will have a tough time dealing with the huge Democrat majority in the legislature. He has stated he is willing to work with Democrats to get the state on track.
The big question is, are Democrats ready to work with Hogan to achieve those results?
Time will tell but if history is any indication Hogan will have to overcome a lot of resistance.
I think he is up to the challenge. Hell, no one gave him any chance of winning the race and he blew Brown out of the water. If he pulled that off I think he can accomplish quite a bit.
Democrats in the legislature beware. Some of your fellow Democrats suffered defeat on Tuesday and that should be a wakeup call that you are not doing your jobs.
Listen to the businessman and get this state back on track.
As an aside, when the tallies were coming in and it looked like Hogan might just pull it off I watched the local station to get current information. It was being reported that Brown would be making an announcement. Speculation was that he would concede because he could not overcome the vote deficit. I took great pleasure in watching the stage as the who’s who of Maryland Democrats stood there with sour looks on their faces waiting for Brown to arrive.
When he did it was short and sweet and that was all she wrote.
I loved that moment.

Who Let The Germs In?

There is a lot of concern over the Ebola Virus and its official entry into the United States. A man in Texas is in critical condition and an unknown number of people have been potentially exposed to the deadly bug. The government that is supposed to protect us is failing miserably.
I have problems with bringing people here to be treated (we should set up a mobile center someplace else) but the real issue is a man who was contagious walking around and interacting with people.
An equally important issue is the Enterovirus D68. This is the bug that has been affecting children across the country.
[note]This virus affects children and teens particularly those with asthma or other airway diseases. Adults are not usually affected as they have developed antibodies over their lives. The virus appears from late summer to fall and then drops off. The uptick here occurred not long after illegals were allowed in and shipped around the country.[/note]
There are over 100 types of Enterovirus and 10 to 15 million people are affected by them in the US each year but the D68 is not usually seen in such prominence. There have been over 500 children infected with the virus this year and that is a big uptick from the same period of time in years past. Two of those children have died as a result of the infection.
Officials seem baffled as to why there is an uptick.Perhaps they should look at the areas where these infections are taking place and then track the illegal children the government allowed into the country. The government bused these kids all over the country and not long after they did D68 started showing.
Obama’s policies of allowing illegal aliens to cross our border and be shipped around the nation for a free ride on the taxpayer is not good for this nation, the rule of law, or our health.
It is also likely it is not good for our children.
It is highly unlikely the government will disclose where it sent the illegals and it is even more unlikely that the government would investigate the increased D68 infections as they relate to where those illegals went.
This would negate their arguments and show they are not interested in protecting us.
The Democrats love to say everything is for the children when they want to pass some law or program that costs us money.
So don’t think of those illegals as little germ carriers. Think of what they bring as “for the children.”

Not So Sweet, Another Tax

Democrats love to do three things more than anything. They love to lie, they love to tax and they love to spend. In fact, Democrats never met a tax they didn’t hike. Then they lie about the tax and spend the money taken in. Representative Rosa DeLauro DEMOCRAT of Connecticut introduced a bill to tax sugary drinks by the teaspoon. Yes, that is right, by the teaspoon. She wants to charge a one cent tax per teaspoon of sugar or high fructose corn syrup or any caloric sweetener.

That would add about 16 cents to a 20 ounce bottle of calorically sweetened soda.
As usual, the reason for the tax is to save us from ourselves. You see, DeLauro wants to discourage people from drinking sugary drinks so they can improve their health because obesity, diabetes and a number of other problems caused by over consumption of sugar cost a lot of money.
She claims the money raised will be dedicated to research for these health problems but we all know that government does not honor the idea of money being dedicated for something. They will spend it on something else and then demand we pay more to fund what they stole. Think about the Social Security Trust Fund. If they had left the money alone there would be plenty for Social Security. They spent it and now they want more from us to cover their malfeasance. A number of dedicated funds meet the same fate and it will be no different if she gets her way.
In any event, this is not her concern. It is not the concern of anyone in Congress. What we do with our bodies is our business, right? I mean that is what they tell us about a woman’s body with regard to abortion. It is her body she can do what she wants with it.
[note]Big difference though, abortion kills an unborn child while consumption of too much sugar hurts only one person. I wonder how DeLauro feels about a pregnant woman who wants to consume sugary drinks…[/note]
So, if people want to drink sugary beverages that is their business.
What business is it of hers or anyone else’s for that matter?
Hmm, there is that thing called Obamacare. If government controls your health care it controls you and all that you do. The obese and diabetics among us are a drain on a fiscally unsound health care scheme.
So like gun control, which is not about guns but about control, this tax is designed to control behavior. If you thought you were free to do what you wanted then think again.
Maybe we should have a tax on the number of bills a member of Congress proposes and an additional tax on every word in the bill. It would have to be paid for by the member introducing the legislation and shared among cosponsors.
The money could be used to send them to classes on the Constitution, our history and the true meaning of freedom.
Better yet, it could be dedicated to removing them from office in the next election.

Duck And Cover Democrats

The Democrats shut down the government last October, of this there can be no doubt. I know they blamed Republicans who asked for a number of concessions including repealing Obamacare. Of course Democrats would not do that so Republicans asked for a delay in the Individual Mandate so that the people being affected by the law would have a reprieve.
Absolutely not was the response from Democrats.
The government shut down and there was uproar as Barack Obama worked to make it seem as uncomfortable as possible. We can’t have this government shut down because people depend on it (which is a problem as far as I am concerned).
[note]Interestingly, no one in DC screams that the people need the government and that it can’t shut down when it closes every time there is a bad snowstorm. The government has shut down a number of times this winter due to bad weather and no one in government had an issue with it.[/note]
But the very reprieve that Republicans were asking for, a delay in the Individual Mandate, has been granted by Imperial Leader Obama. He caught hell for all the cancellations and his lie about keeping your plan if you liked it was exposed. So Obama, who could have avoided the shutdown and the embarrassment of his lie being exposed in October, extended the Mandate. He pushed it a year down the road. He could have done that in October and the government would not have shut down so he is responsible despite what the left tells you.
But a problem happened when he extended the deadline a year. The extension could result in a nasty election day for Democrats because insurance companies are required by law to send out cancellation notices 90 days before the cancellation.
Those notices will go out about five weeks before the November midterm election and a lot of anger will be pointed at Democrats.
You see, no Republican voted for Obamacare. The Democrats used a lot of back room deals to get enough of their own to vote for it so they own it. It has been a disaster and many of them will be fighting for their political lives. The last thing they need is the cancellations that would have come out earlier this past year to start coming out just before the election. This will remind all voters that Obamacare took away their plans and give them plenty of reason to vote them out of office.
Barack Obama to the rescue.
Obama is set to announce another extension of the mandate and the sole reason is so that the cancellation notices do not come out prior to the election. It is already unconstitutional for him to change the law as he has done over 20 times but now he is playing political games with this change. There is no reason for the extension to be granted except to provide cover for vulnerable Democrats.
The constant changes from Obama have caused problems for insurance companies because they need a stable environment in order to assess the cost of coverage and to adjust premiums. In the ever changing Obamacare world they are unable to run their businesses. Here is what they should do. The law requires them to send the notices no later than 90 days but as far as I am aware there is no restriction on sending them out earlier.
These companies should send out the notices so that they reach people prior to the election. People need to know what lies ahead before they vote.
Of course, people need to be responsible too. They know that millions were dumped from their plans and they know that Obama lied when he told them they could keep them if they liked them so they need to understand that the extension only delays the inevitable.
Regardless of when the extension ends they will still lose their plans. They need to understand that Obama is only doing what he is doing to help Democrats avoid defeat in November.
Remember, these politicians only care about you when they want your vote. Once you put them back in office they will screw you every way they can. Dump them in November and get some fresh blood in there to shake things up and ensure your interests are taken into consideration.
It is amazing to me Obama has the nerve to claim that Putin is violating International Law when Obama is busy breaking American law.
Send him a message and cripple him in the next election. We might not be able to get anything passed because he has a veto pen BUT we can make him a true lame duck who cannot force his agenda on an unwilling population.

Obamacare Is Settled Law, So?

The left keeps telling us Obamacare is settled law and it should be left alone. That is, of course, unless B. Hussein Obama wants to alter it to help his friends. He is OK with granting exemptions and delaying certain provisions that help donors or base groups. He, I might add, is not allowed to change a law but then again the Constitution has never gotten in his way.
To strengthen his argument Obama tells us that John Roberts (an alleged conservative) and the Supreme Court have told us that Obamacare is settled and therefore we must leave it alone.
This guy is supposed to be a Constitutional law professor but he never gets it right. The Supreme Court only stated that Obamacare was Constitutional, not that it had to be left alone. The Court is charged with deciding if something is legal, the Congress is charged with introducing and changing laws and it has that authority no matter how long a law has been in place.
[note]It is also important to point out the SCOTUS violated the Constitution when deciding Obamacare. The Court rewrote the law to make the penalty a tax and thus make it legal under Congress’ taxing authority. The law never calls it a tax; it calls the money a penalty. Remember, Obama was vehement that this was not a tax (until it was).[/note]
In any event, we are supposed to just sit back and allow Obamacare to destroy the nation because it is settled law. Well a funny thing happened on the way to Obamacare, the Democrats who rammed it through are now in a bad position because it is not working and millions of people are losing the plans they like and were promised they could keep. The rollout of the exchanges was a disaster and the website will likely not be working correctly by the end of November as Obama promised. Democrats want to change the law, you know the one that is settled and must be left alone.
When Republicans were debating the budget issues they pushed for many things. One of the compromises was a year delay of the individual mandate. The Democrats refused to negotiate and allowed the government to shut down over the issue. Now that things are going badly many of them (particularly those up for reelection) are seeking a delay of a year in implementing many parts of Obamacare including the individual mandate. Think about it. Democrats refused to do this and allowed the government to (partially) shutdown and now they are asking for it in order to protect them in the next election.
I like the way Obama and his toadies scream about settled law. Why is it that a settled law means nothing to them when they don’t like it?
Case in point, the Second Amendment. The law regarding arms has been settled law since December 15th, 1791 and yet liberals, including Obama, keep trying to change it.
The Second Amendment protects a preexisting right for an individual to keep and bear arms. This is only in dispute from those who want to get rid of firearms. History, SCOTUS rulings and the writings of the Founders all make it perfectly clear that individuals have the right to own and carry firearms for personal protection and any other legal purpose.
But liberals are not happy with this settled law. They want to change it even though it has been in effect just shy of 222 years.
So don’t fall for the mindless prattle of liberals who declare Obamacare settled law that can’t be changed.
You can change any law. Obamacare can be changed by Congress and the President and the Second Amendment can be changed by the people (through the Amendment process).
Ironically, liberal/progressive/socialists want Obamacare upheld and the Second Amendment repealed for the very same reason.

This is how tyrants work. Control people’s lives (like their health care) and remove their means to fight tyranny and you can run roughshod over them.
History is full of examples of this.
Let’s not allow America to be added to that list.
