Just Like Obamacare, Unions Want Out Of Wage Increase

The unions were all behind Obamacare and supported the occupant of the White House in his quest to control more and more people. They were thrilled when it passed because it would bring joy and happiness to all the peons, the mindless rabble who need to be told what to do.

Then those very unions applied for, and were granted, exceptions to the law. You see, they supported it as good for you but then decided they did not want any part of it for their union members.

This ties in with the minimum wage increase in California. The state passed a law incrementally raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour. There is already backlash over this.

You see, as many warned, the hike in minimum wage resulted in higher costs to employers and anyone who knows business knows this cost (as are all costs) is passed on to someone else, usually the consumer. At many restaurants a portion of the worker’s tips are being confiscated to make up for the additional cost. You read that right, the people who are getting a wage increase are paying for part of that increase by losing some of their tip money to cover it.

Some restaurants stopped with tipping and add a 16% surcharge to the bill which is divided between the servers and the business (want to bet who gets more of it).

This is no surprise. If wages go up they need to be paid for and those costs are passed on in higher prices or fewer workers (some are fired to pay for the rest) or, as in this case, taking worker’s tips.

But what does that have to do with unions?

The unions pushed for the wage increase. They worked hard to get it passed and now they are negotiating exemptions for their union members.

Just like Obamacare it is good for all the rabble but not for the unions.

Careful what you ask for because you might not like it.

And if a union supports it then you know it is not a good idea…

Businesses Seeking Relief From Obamacare

Anyone with a brain knew Obamacare would cause problems. The law and the regulations implemented to enforce it are cumbersome and do nothing to help. The cost of the program has risen since it was enacted (they lied about what it would cost) and the downstream current of the law has caused the cost of private insurance to go up. The DHHS has admitted that because of Obamacare insurance will cost much more.

Businesses across the nation are appealing to the government for relief from the costs of this law. Specifically, businesses in states that have refused to bow down to big government are the ones asking for relief. They need help because the SCOTUS shot down the Medicaid requirement. The SCOTUS ruled that states could not be compelled to participate in the expansion and a number of them have decided not to do so.

This means that businesses will have to foot the bills and if any of their employees end up in a state exchange the employers will have to pay $3000 for each employee who joins.

This means a lot of businesses will end up in financial trouble. Some will likely end up closing their doors or they will fire enough people to get under the 50 employee mark where Obamacare is applicable.

It certainly sucks to be in the position in which these businesses find themselves but they should not get any kind of relief. If they are given relief then the costs will be shifted to everyone else. Those of us who pay taxes are already paying for the law and those who benefit from it. We are footing the bill for everyone else and if we have to cover the cost to these businesses then we will be paying even more.

It is not my job to provide health care dollars for someone else. It is my job to take care of me and my family. This is true of anyone who knows what responsibility is. Yes, we need programs in place to cover the absolute poorest among us and those who absolutely cannot afford health care BUT there are not many of those people out there.

Those who can afford cell phones, multiple cars, satellite or cable TV, expensive clothes and the newest modern gadgets can pay for their own health care insurance.

Anyone who smokes a pack of cigarettes a day and/or drinks a few beers or other drinks could quit doing so and use the money to buy basic health insurance. Give up the cell phone and the satellite/cable TV and they could buy a better plan.

It is about responsibility and choice.

As for the businesses, if they do not feel the pain and if their workers do not feel the pain then they will never learn. Anyone affected who voted for Obama and his minions voted for this to take place. Those who did not vote for him are, sadly, collateral damage in the war on the people waged by government.

They were all warned and now they are finding out that their decision (or the decision of the low information voters) comes with consequences.

Let them live with their decisions or the decisions of others. If their business cannot thrive in a state that has refused the Medicaid expansion then these businesses are free to move to states that have.

Or they can fire any of their employees who voted for Obama until they get down to 49.

Then they can ignore the law and their former employees can deal with the change they voted for.

Cave canem!
Never surrender, never submit.

What Happens When Legislation Is Rushed Through

By now most people know what happens when legislation is rushed through because we have the glaring example of Obamacare. Nancy Pelosi said we had to pass it to see what was in it and things come to light each day. Hell, Obama said there was nothing in Obamacare to prevent doctors from asking about guns in the home but he must not have read the thing because there is (page 2308). A section dedicated to the rights of gun owners prevents such questions and prevents establishing databases.

The state of New York enacted even tougher gun control after the tragedy at Sandy Hook. The legislation was rushed through as New York Governor Cum-o waived requirements (calling it an emergency) so it could pass and be signed quickly. The first problem is that there was no emergency that required waiving the three day legislation requirement (there were no school shooting rampages in New York) and it is obvious this was done for political reasons. Cum-o wanted to get it passed before opposing views could be presented and he wanted to sign it quickly to avoid a rush on gun purchases.

This is all about controlling people and not addressing the issue of criminals using guns illegally to do things that are against the law. Keep in mind that every time someone uses a gun to commit a crime he is already breaking a bunch of laws. The reality is that liberals want to take guns away so they can impose tyranny on the country. Unarmed people are slaves and the Democrat Party is the party of slave owners.

The problem NY faces is that the legislation was rammed through so quickly that there was no exemption on the size of magazines police officers can use. This means that police officers will be in violation of the law.

I am not opposed to that as I do not believe that the police should be allowed to have higher capacity magazines than law abiding citizens. In fact, since we all know that these laws only affect the law abiding, the criminals will be the only ones with higher capacity magazines. This is something that has not escaped the notice of the police in NY:

State Senator Eric Adams, a former NYPD Captain, told us he’s going to push for an amendment next week to exempt police officers from the high-capacity magazine ban. In his words, “You can’t give more ammo to the criminals” WABC

This statement is a direct admission that the new law will do NOTHING to prevent criminals from keeping higher capacity magazines. It is an admission that the law will only affect the law abiding. It is an admission that the goal is to disarm the law abiding and an admission that criminals do NOT obey the law.

How many NY police leaders stood with Cum-o and agreed with him? How many are OK with law abiding citizens being shackled while criminals are left untouched? How many realize that the law they want an exemption to will affect people the way they want to avoid?

This law should not be amended unless the amendment is to repeal it. The police in New York should suffer the same fate as those they are supposed to serve. There is no reason for the police to have more ammo than the average citizen when we all know the criminals will always have more and that the police will arrive afterthe crime has been committed.

Senator Barrosso Makes A Good Point About Health Care Bill

Senator John Barrosso, a Wyoming Republican, made a very good point about the Senate health care bill that was secreted through Congress in the middle of the night. He asks, if the bill is so good then why did 13 Democrat Senators ask that their states be exempted from some provisions of it?

This is a very good question. If this bill is wonderful for the country and will solve all of our health care woes, then why did these Senators get their states exempted from some of the provisions? Why is this bill good for the country but not for their states?

This, of course, opens the entire process to judicial review because some states got sweetheart deals and others will foot the bill but it is still interesting that each of these 13 Senators did not feel the deal was good enough for their states but is perfectly OK for the rest of us.

If it is such a good thing then most everyone would be buying off on it and the majority of the public would not disapprove of it.

Do we need to fix health care? Sure but we do not need to overhaul it. We need it fixed to be cheaper (more competition) and we need it to apply to all the states. We cannot have bills where the rest of us pay more so the exempted states can benefit.
