George Bush Saved The Gulf Coast
Sep 2, 2008 Opinion
Hurricane Gustav is losing strength by the minute though it will likely stall out and cause flooding in some areas along its path. However, the levees in New Orleans held, for the most part, and though there will no doubt be some flooding, the devastation will be nowhere near what it was during Katrina. This is because of George W. Bush.
Now I know George Bush did not rebuild the levees, he did not drive the evacuation buses and he did not open shelters to house people. In fact, all he did was lead from the top and provide assistance that state governors requested. But since the left blamed him for all the failures that occurred when Katrina hit, it is only fair to give him all the credit for the successes that occurred during this disaster.
It would seem ridiculous to give him ALL the credit when the five Gulf State REPUBLICAN governors worked together to ensure success by planning early and requesting federal assistance in a timely manner. However, since the president was to blame when state and local leaders were woefully inadequate he must be credited with the success when other leaders do their jobs well.
During the 2006 election season and during last week’s Democratic Convention we were reminded about the failures during Katrina. The stories about Americans being abandoned never mentioned the Democrats in charge of Louisiana as part of the problem. We were (and have been since Katrina hit) led to believe that this was a failure of George Bush and his administration.
Now that things went fairly smoothly during Gustav Americans must be reminded of how well the plans worked with REPUBLICAN leadership. America must be informed that George Bush did a great job when he was not hamstrung by a Democratic governor who was afraid to ask for help and too overwhelmed to demonstrate real leadership.
George Bush saved the Gulf Coast. I bet the Democrats who laughed about this disaster approaching are taking a second look. You see, when real leaders are in charge the probability of success increases.
I wonder if the MSM and the Democratic party leadership will acknowledge this amazing feat that President Bush pulled off. I imagine not since they were blaming him this far into Katrina and they have not said one word of praise since Gustav arrived.
The five Gulf Coast Republican Governors all worked well together and coordinated with the federal government. They were not lying in a corner sucking their thumbs like Ray Nagin during Katrina (he did a much better job this time) and they were not on TV crying about the destruction like Blanco did back then. They were leading people to get things done. Thank God Louisiana has Bobby Jindal as its Governor this time around.
I have little use for New Orleans and have been soured since the way people acted about Katrina. Having said that, I am glad that people evacuated and that the levees held. Those who stayed behind did so at their own peril and they are the only ones responsible for their fate. I pray for them and the rest of the Gulf Coast as Gustav exits and Hannah and Ike prepare to make their presence known.
Let us pray that the people down there get things back in shape before the next one hits.

Fowler Apologizes For Offending, Attacks Recorder
Aug 31, 2008 Political
Don Fowler, the Democrats caught on video laughing and showing his glee that a hurricane would hit New Orleans just as Republicans were starting their convention, has apologized. Well, sort of. Fowler apologized if he offended anyone, not for being wrong and insensitive on this issue. He then went on to attack the “right wing nutcase” who recorded him:
“If this offended anybody, I personally apologize,” Fowler told ABC News. “It was a mistake, and it was a satirical statement made in jest. And one that I clearly don’t believe.”
~snip~
“One doesn’t anticipate that one’s private conversation will be surreptitiously taped by some right-wing nutcase,” said Fowler. “But that’s the nature of what we’re dealing with.” Political Radar
He is sorry if anyone was offended and it was just satire and a statement made in jest. What he really means is that he is sorry his true feelings were exposed.
The other thing he did was attack the person who exposed him. He said that one does not expect a private conversation to be recorded. Mr. Fowler, if you are on a plane or anywhere else in public, your conversations are not private. If your conversation can be heard by others it is not private. The person who heard you had every right to record what was going on. If it had not been recorded you would have denied it.
Your true feelings were exposed and Michael Moore demonstrated that your comment was not an isolated thought. Many Democrats are keeping their mouths shut but inside they are very happy that this is going on.
I wonder how this will play out should the evacuations go well and should there be minimal loss of life. What will happen if it all goes real well? The image in people’s minds will not be Katrina and the problems there but in Gustav and how well things went. The freshest image will be one of success. Will the Democrats be as happy if the American people equate success with a Republican Governor and failure with the Democrat who was in power when Katrina hit? What will the Dems do then?
If I were McCain I would start my speech by thanking people and saying that this shows what can happen when a competent Republican Governor coordinates with the federal government early on and requests assistance well in advance of the problem. Put the onus for Katrina on the Dems.
Then we would see crying instead of laughing. As it stands, Fowler and the others are happy no matter how they “apologize.”
Morons.
Democrats Laugh At Potential New Orleans Disaster
Aug 30, 2008 Political
I have written about Michael Moore and his remark that the hurricane heading toward Louisiana just as the Republican National Committee is about to start is proof that God exists. One might be able to excuse this because Moore is a mouth piece for Democrats and so severely brain damaged that he is a moron. If it were only Moore they might excuse it but now we have two more Democrats who have no regard for the people of New Orleans and think it is wonderful that a hurricane is heading there at this time because it will (they believe) help them.
Former National Chairman of the Democratic National Committee Don Fowler and Congressman John Spratt of South Carolina were on a plane heading out of Denver after their convention. They engaged in a conversation and it is reported that they were mocking Sarah Palin and dismissing her as a candidate who offers nothing more than the fact she is female. Then the subject of the hurricane came up and Fowler says that the timing of the hurricane is that it will hit when the convention starts. He is laughing about it the entire time and then says it demonstrates that God is on their side.
Now this all might be hearsay and they might have denied that the conversation ever took place if Absentee from RedState had not been behind them on the plane and video recorded the conversation (evidently starting after they discussed Palin).
Here we have Democrats laughing about a hurricane that is heading for New Orleans and causing havoc. It wasn’t bad enough that they let the Democratic Mayor and Democratic Governor screw things up during Katrina and then blame everything on George Bush in order to get political gain (at the expense of human suffering) but now they are laughing about a hurricane that is reported to be a Category 4. They do not care that people could die and that there will be quite a bit of destruction.
Fortunately, Bobby Jindal is now in charge and he has mobilized 7000 National Guardsmen and has 700 other personnel coming in. He has also closed schools in certain areas for Tuesday and Wednesday. All of this proactive work while Democrats laugh in delight at the though of a hurricane entering during the Republicans’ convention. The fact that Jindal is being proactive and is working with the federal government in advance not only demonstrates leadership but shows how things could have been done when Katrina hit, if the Democrats only had people who know how to lead. There is even a novel idea of using school buses to haul people away from the city instead of letting the buses sit on a lot and get flooded. Who would have though a bus could be used to carry people. Certainly not Mayor Nagin who left 500 buses to get flooded instead of using them to evacuate people during the disaster of Katrina.
There is a mandatory evacuation order for New Orleans but this does not mean people have to leave. They can just be arrested if they are outside their homes. People have been told that if they stay they should not expect any help. Therefore, I don’t expect to see all the Democrats screaming about people stranded and left behind and needing help that they could not get. I don’t want to hear Kanye West and the Democratic party discuss how George Bush hates black people. It is very clear that people should leave and it is even more clear that if they do not they are on their own. NO HELP for putting their own lives at risk.
Maybe the Democrats will be too busy laughing about the hurricane to make any accusations.

Maybe New Orleans Learned Something
Aug 27, 2008 Political
The third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina arrives in a few days and the people in New Orleans are nervous about another hurricane that is heading in their direction. Hurricane Gustav is expected to become a category 3 hurricane and make landfall somewhere along the US Gulf Coast. The city is planning for a mandatory evacuation in case the storm tracks toward the city and Mayor Ray “Chocolate” Nagin left the Democratic National Convention to get home to manage things. One can only hope (hey an Obama reference) that he manages things better than he did last time. One thing is for sure, with a Republican Governor there won’t be any state level incompetence like was experienced under Governor Blanco.
The City has plans to order a mandatory evacuation if the storm is within 72 hours of landfall if the track shows it will come anywhere near the place. Congratulations to New Orleans! They learned a lesson. Evacuate when there is danger and make the evacuation MANDATORY. If the (lack of) leadership there had done this when Katrina was heading there we would not have had all those people suffer. The lack of local leadership caused misery (despite what the left wants you to believe about the federal government causing it). If they had gotten out back then we would not have had people die, they would not have been stranded and they would not have tied up resources (like helicopters) to effect rescues. We could have come in, assessed the damage and began rebuilding. Instead we had delays because of rescue and recovery instead of a fully effective federal response (of course there were problems at that level as well).
Here are a few things to contemplate:
- Why is it that a memorial to Katrina and the victims has been built but they keep complaining that the city has not been rebuilt? Seems they have their priorities mixed up.
- Maybe though, it is a good thing they have not finished rebuilding. If this storm is going to demolish stuff then it might just as well be stuff that is already destroyed.
- Will the federal government send resources there to stage a few days in advance so that the Democrats cannot complain about response times. I might add that FEMA responded within its allotted time of 72 hours AFTER an incident.
- Isn’t it ironic that another storm is heading there as the Republicans are preparing for their convention? As Democrats continue to erroneously pin the horror on Republicans another storm is arriving to remind us of the disaster. Maybe we should send an Army Division there now to help evacuate and make sure things run well so Democrats won’t have anything else to lie about.
- Anyone have the feeling that things were being planned well while Nagin was away and now that he is heading home it will all be screwed up?
- I bet there will not be any buses abandoned this time around.
- In case people are as stupid as Jesse Jackson who kept asking “where did you want them to go (in reference to using the buses), the answer is NORTH. Get in the buses and head north. Stay at a rest stop or truck stop until it is over and then go home. Maybe the Democrats can set up a nice place for you. I understand they have a pretty concentration camp set up in Denver.
- If NO gets hit again can we skip the taxpayer welfare to rebuild it and just use the money already allocated and not spent?
People of New Orleans, pay attention. Your leaders are contemplating a mandatory evacuation and if they issue the order GET OUT. You will get plenty of warning and your leaders are actually acting like they know how to lead so there should be no excuses. I don’t want to hear any crying about people stranded without drinking water or on roof tops.
My wife just returned from NO. She said she had a good time and enjoyed it. I have never had the desire to go there and I lived in LA for nearly five years. I would feel better if they filled NO in and rebuilt a few more miles inland.
