School Shootings Happen Because Of Gun Control

gun controlBefore I get to the main topic of this post let me start off by saying how heartbroken I am that so many people, particularly children, were murdered. It is beyond me how someone can be so evil and have such little regard for life. I will never understand why or how a person could harm children. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends affected by this senseless act of violence.

I knew it would not be long before the left started screaming about more gun control in light of the shootings today in Connecticut. The left does not like to let a crisis go to waste and by watching the reaction today it is easy to see they are in that mode right now. Micheal Moore says we need to take the guns away. Mayor Bloomberg says the same thing and the Baltimore Sun editorial says that maybe this will prompt Obama and the Democrats to get serious about gun control.

The Washington Post says that if roads were crumbling and drivers being killed we would act to repair the roads but with guns we do not fix the problem. The Post’s idea of fixing the problem is to ban guns. Yes, they want to punish everyone who had absolutely nothing to do with the shooting by taking away their guns. But the guns are not the problem. You see, in order to apply the same logic the Post uses to cure guns to its roads analogy we would not repair the roads, we would ban driving.

The absence of guns will not prevent guns from being used to murder nor will it keep people from being injured, even in schools. In China the people are not allowed to own guns and millions are murdered by them each year at the hands of their government, the only people who have the guns. And on this day we are shocked to see 20 children murdered with a gun a person in China went into a school and cut up a bunch of people with a knife.

You see, evil exists in this world and there is no way to prevent evil people from doing evil things. Gun control will not now or ever stop people who desire to obtain and use a gun from doing so. Criminals use guns all the time. look how easily criminals sneak people and drugs into this country and you can see how easy it is to sneak guns in. In fact, our government sneaked a bunch of them into Mexico and over 300 Mexicans were murdered with them. Certain drugs are illegal in this country and yet people use them everyday.

In other words, criminals do not obey the law and as long as there is a market for something it will be provided by enterprising people. Prohibition did not stop people from drinking and it did not stop the criminal element from getting the booze into the country. The fact of the matter is that you simply cannot stop people from doing what they want to do by passing a law.

In fact, gun control was in full effect at the school. It is a violation of federal law to have a gun at a school:

Title 18 U.S.C. §922(q) known as “The Federal Gun Free School Zones Act” is a federal law, currently in effect, which makes it illegal for an armed citizen to be within a “school zone” as defined by Title 18 U.S.C. §921(25). These “school zones” include, but are not limited to any public parks, fairgrounds, sidewalks, roads, and highways which are within 1000 feet of the property line of any public or private elementary, middle, or high school in our nation. Source

So tell me, if gun control works (laws banning guns) and guns are banned at schools, how did this guy walk into a school with a gun and shoot people? Clearly the point I made about criminals not obeying the law was demonstrated. This guy did not obey the law and even if the ban was for the entire country and all guns were banned he would still find a way to get one or he would have murdered people by some other means.

Laws and signs do not stop people from committing crimes. We have speed limits and people drive too fast. We have laws against drinking and driving and people drink and drive. We have laws against abusing children or having sex with minors and yet people still do that. If people obeyed the law then all we would have to do is pass laws. We would not need the police to enforce the laws or judges to preside over cases involving alleged lawbreaking because people would be obeying the law. The reality is that bad people do not obey the law and with regard to guns these bad people prey on those who are not allowed to have guns.

[note]The theater in Colorado where people were murdered had signs that made it clear firearms were NOT allowed on the premises. How come the shooter took a gun in when he was not allowed?[/note]

Does anyone think a criminal really cares if it is illegal for him to carry or use a gun? Obviously the guy who committed the murders today did not care because he entered a gun free school zone with a gun.

In Israel the teachers are armed in order to protect the students. How many would be criminals would think twice before attacking a school if it was well known that teachers (or others) were armed. Gun free school zones are open invitations to evil people. It is an advertisement that says “hey, there are no guns here so if you want to cause mayhem come on in.”

If guns are so dangerous how come there are never mass shootings at gun shows? In fact, does anyone think a criminal would try to rob a gun show or commit mass murder at one? Why do you suppose that is?

I suspect there will be renewed calls for more gun control despite the fact that these murders took place in an area governed by federal gun control. The left will not let the crisis go to waste.

Loss of life is tragic and the loss of the lives of children is particularly so but the sad truth is that evil exists and punishing every gun owner for something they did not do will not stop these kinds of things.

We do not allow guns in schools so criminals bring guns in.

More importantly, we do not allow God in schools so evil walks in to fill the void.

May God bless the souls of those children who were murdered and may he comfort the families of those who lost loved ones and of those left behind, forever scarred by senseless violence.

Speed/Red Light Cameras Are About Revenue

The claim is that they are about safety. Yes, those cameras set up to capture people who are speeding or running red lights. Instead of having a police officer see you commit a wrongful act and ticket you, a camera snaps a photo and you get a ticket a few months later.

Most people get the ticket and pay the fine. They can’t remember the incident or don’t want to deal with the hassle. You see, there are no points assessed and there is no need to go to court to face an accuser because the violation is a civil one.

The system is bad and open to lots and lots of corruption. The very fact that it takes months and most people will not contest the fine can lead to more people being ticketed even if they do not deserve to be. Couple this with incentives (more money for more tickets) to the companies running these things and the table is set.

A lawyer in Baltimore received a ticket for going 38 in a 25 mph zone. That is above the 12 mph required to be issued a ticket. I am willing to bet that in most cases, say 99 out of a 100, the person would pay the fine. This lawyer did not. You see, the picture taken clearly shows that his vehicle was NOT moving at the time the infraction allegedly took place. His brake lights are on and a short video of the incident shows he was not moving. It is also obvious that there is traffic crossing in front of him from a crossing.

How did this happen? Was it a mistake? How many others have been ticketed when they were not moving and how many paid the fines? This was not isolated as at least 7 other cameras in Baltimore have been shown to be issuing incorrect tickets. Millions of dollars in fines have been collected by the city and one must wonder how much of the money was obtained because of a mistake, or worse yet, fraud.

These cameras are only there to generate revenue so it is not beyond reason that they could be manipulated to increase revenue even more. If this was about safety, as those who support the placement of cameras claim, then why are there no points for the infraction? Why are there no other punishments? Why are speed cameras in work zones set to capture people driving at speeds that will most assuredly result in the death of a struck worker as the regular speed limit? I saw one camera placed where the speed limit allowed was the normal speed limit of 65 mph. This means a person could go 77 mph and NOT get a ticket. How is that speed in any way, shape, or form safe for workers?

I remember a red light camera being placed in an area I go through regularly and the newspaper said it was there for safety. They took it down and the reason was that it did not produce enough revenue.

Safety?

I think not. The fact is they use these things to increase revenue. They don’t have to do much and they get a huge return on investment because most people do not contest the tickets.

GOP Should Not Cave In On Taxes

Barack Obama is certain that the GOP will cave and raise tax rates on the wealthy, defined as those who make more than 250k a year. He might be right because the GOP has a history of caving in. For some reason the party has not figured out it will get blamed no matter what and it continues to try to appease and give up in hope that people will like them and not blame them.

Who gives a rip how people perceive you? If you don’t cave and things get better Obama will get credit and the GOP will be seen as obstructionists. If they cave and Obama gets what he wants and things do not improve the GOP will be blamed. We know this is how it has been throughout history and we also know that Obama is not capable of taking responsibility. He blames everyone but himself for any problem (but he takes all credit for anything good).

Let’s make it clear right now. Barack Obama does not care one iota about doing what is best for the country. His focus is on destroying the GOP. He wants to make political moves that will paint the GOP into a corner so he can score points and he cares not how it affects the nation.

If the GOP caves and raises tax rates on the wealthy then Obama will portray it as an admission from the right that the lower tax rates enacted under George Bush (but only the ones on the rich) were the reason for the fiscal problems. He will say that the Republicans are admitting to it and that is why they had to raise the tax rates. This is already the narrative as Obama claims things were wonderful under Bill Clinton when tax rates were higher. He does not realize that the Clinton years were sleight of hand. He also fails to see that everyone had higher tax rates and that spending was much lower. We still spent too much and we still had deficits but they were nowhere near as bad as they are now.

The Obama plan will net maybe about 100 billion a year over ten years. We are over budget by more than a TRILLION dollars a year (and have been each year of Obama’s occupation). The math does not add up. Obama wants a ten year tax increase equal to the amount he is over budget in a single year.

The problem is not the amount of money coming in; it is the amount going out that is the problem.

We could raise revenue by lowering tax rates on corporations and making a more favorable environment for them to hire employees. If we get millions of people working again then there will be millions more people paying taxes. If we revised the tax code to institute a flat tax then everyone would pay a fair share for the country and everyone would have, to quote Barack Obama, skin in the game.

Half of wage earners pay no federal taxes and the top half pay for the nation. Yes, those in the bottom pay state taxes (in some states) and they pay Social Security and Medicare. Those are called taxes but the reason these programs were started was as a way for people to save for their own retirement. They have morphed into social programs that are nothing more than Ponzi schemes. In any event, these taxes are levied on people for their own retirement. An 11% tax on all earnings from all wage earners could pay the bills and eliminate the need to collect a separate SS and Medicare tax.

The GOP should not cave on this issue. Who cares about the fiscal cliff? The people in Congress along with Barack Obama decided two years ago that they would strike a deal that would force the sides to come together and work something out or draconian cuts would take place and taxes would increase on everyone. Well, they played games, worried about the election and ignored the issue for two years. Now the table is set and the conditions they ALL agreed to are about to come to fruition.

Let them. No deal is better than a bad deal, period.

Let the taxes on everyone go up. Let the SS tax go back to where it was. Cut Defense and let budget cuts across the government take place. Everyone will be affected and those who voted for Obama can feel the pain along with everyone else.

While we are at it we can turn off all the Obamaphones to save some money.

The GOP is worried about how it will be perceived by people not in its base if it does not cave in and let Obama raise the tax rates of the wealthy.

It better worry about how the base will react if the tax rates go up. Tick off the base and you will never win again no matter how many Democrats you make happy.

Ask John McCain how pleasing Democrats works out…

The low information entitlement Obama voters will never support Republicans. That would require work, thought and the ability to learn.

Keep in mind that Romney lost because he said that his plan would put people to work. 51% of the voters said the hell with that and voted to ride the gravy train of welfare.

Obama Consults With Mental Midgets From MSNBC

The United States is in a financial crisis and the budget deal struck in 2010 is ready to rear its ugly head as the Bush era tax cuts expire and automatic budget cuts go into effect. While I think that it would be better to allow it to take place rather than give in to higher taxes and no cuts my opinion does not really count much in the process.

But, the opinion of Obama should count and he should be involved in the process. One would think he would seek out the council of people who actually know economics, like say Paul Ryan. Ryan has a degree in economics and is a good numbers person. Obama has not sought Ryan’s opinion. In fact, he has demonized Ryan and his plans.

So in between the golf games and the endless campaigning (hey Barry, you allegedly won so get to work) Obama has decided to avail himself to the process. If a deal is to be done (and I think he would be happy going over the so called fiscal cliff and blaming Republicans) then Obama wants it done soon because he and his family are going on a taxpayer funded 4 MILLION dollar vacation at the end of the year.

Obama has decided to get the opinions of some real budgetary heavy weights from MSNBC. Yes, Barack Obama had Al Sharpton, Rachael Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell in the West Wing to discuss tax rates.

What do any of these mouthpieces of the Democrat Party know about any of this? What kind of objective opinion can they provide given that they are shills for Obama and have all espoused raising taxes on the people who pay most of the federal income taxes to begin with.

[note]Yes, everyone who earns income pays Social Security and Medicare taxes (which used to be called insurance and not taxes) but this is ostensibly paid for one’s own future. They are paying for their future retirement and medical care. The fact that government wastes the money has nothing to do with the reality that they are paying a small portion for their future. In fact, most will get more than they ever paid in thanks to higher earners who pay more.[/note]

I find it particularly strange that Sharpton is involved given that he has not paid his fair share. Big Al owes 3.7 MILLION dollars in taxes and penalties because he has not paid his fair share. He is all about screaming for others to pay but, like any liberal, he does not want to pay what he owes. Hell, Sharpton is more qualified to be Treasury Secretary than to give advice on tax rates (see Tax Cheat Tim Geithner).

Barack Obama does not have a clue. He should be working with his Democrats to provide meaningful discussion on the process. He should be looking for ways to cut spending while leaving tax rates alone unless he is in favor of LOWERING them. Lower rates will stimulate growth and spending and result in more revenue to the Treasury. If they don’t spend the additional money like they always do then we can use it to pay the bills and begin to retire the debt.

These are all items that can be discussed but in order to have any meaningful discussion the talks have to be with people who a) know what they are talking about and b) are actual involvement or influence in the process.

The Democrat operatives at MSNBC have no influence in the process and they certainly do not know what they are talking about.

The fact that Obama would insult Ryan and ignore his opinion and instead seek out O’Donnell, Sharpton and Maddow is just another demonstration of why Obama is the least qualified person to run this country (or anything for that matter). He is out of his league.

But at least by hanging with these hacks he can at least appear to be the brightest in the room…

Hoyer Wants It All On The Table?

Steny Hoyer, useless Congressman from Maryland, said that cuts to Social Security and Medicare should be on the table as part of the budget negotiation process. Apparently, a number of other Democrats believe that they should be looked at for spending reductions but should be addressed at a later date. Plink…

That was the sound of the can being kicked down the road.

Hoyer is saying that taking these items off the table is a bad place to start negotiations. He is correct in that and if he is actually serious about having them on the table then the negotiations can begin. However, he is a Democrat and that means he can’t be trusted.

Here is how I see it. Hoyer says these should be on the table and the other Democrats oppose. Republicans jump in and say; “now we’re talking” and then as the negotiations progress the affected constituents are bombarded with negative information from the Democrats who oppose and their lobbying arm at AARP.

The Republicans get blamed for trying to reduce granny’s check and the furor gets louder. Republicans cave, give Democrats tax increases with no real spending cuts because, well you know, they will come later (psst, they never do).

Then Hoyer and the Republican leadership step in front of cameras claiming they tried to do something about these runaway programs but could not so they struck the best deal they possibly could. They will complement each other, slap backs and say they did a great job.

Then they will adjourn for the holidays and Americans will be left with their shorts around their ankles.

Beware of Democrats bearing gifts. How many times do Republicans have to play Charlie Brown to the football holding Lucy before they wake up?

We do not have an income problem. We have a spending problem.
