She’ll Take Hers To Go
May 11, 2015 Commentary
Two police officers in Mississippi were shot and killed over the weekend. Nothing can justify the senseless murders of police officers just as nothing can justify when a police officer murders a civilian. No matter what the gripe there is no call for the unjustified shooting of a police officer (yes I think there are be times when it is justified. You always have the right to self-defense).
A worker at Subway was happy about the murder of the officers and posted to social media; “2 police officers was [sic] shot in hattiesburg [sic] tonight.! [sic]”. She then posted -GOT EM’ with a picture of three handguns.
The moron also posted her picture with her work hat on. Her message got the attention of a lot of people who made it known to Subway that they were unhappy. The worker was terminated from her position at the establishment.
She also had this to say:
We can turn this b*tch into Baltimore real quick. Police take away innocent people lives everyday now & get away w/ it, f**k them…NO MERCY [redactions are mine]
I am glad she believes in no mercy because that is what her employer showed, no mercy. She lost her job and that was a good decision for the company since she, by wearing her company hat in the photo, brought discredit upon it.
The police have made several arrests in the case and two of them are felons who, by law, are not allowed to possess firearms. As an aside, how did felons get guns if gun control laws work?
Everyone except for liberals knows the answer to that…
It is good that the people who allegedly murdered the officers are in custody and they will get their day in court. Mississippi has the death penalty so if these guys are found guilty I hope they get that punishment.
But I do wonder about something. The Subway employee said cops take innocent lives away as justification for the murders of these officers and she said there should be no mercy. So given that, how would she feel if the police adopted the same mindset and decided to go hunting people because some bad ones murder cops?
How would she feel if she were looking down the barrel of a police officer’s firearm proclaiming her innocence and being told, no mercy?
It won’t come to that and while there are problems with an increasingly militarized police force most of the officers are not bad people hell bent on harming others.
The reality that cops (and most other people) do not go on vendettas randomly shooting people with whom they have contact contrasts greatly with the attitude of the Subway employee which, unfortunately, is all too common.
These differences in attitudes separate the civil part of society from those who have no respect for others and take no responsibility for their lives.

Lesbian Couple Wants Divorce Lickety Split
Dec 2, 2013 Commentary
A lesbian couple in Mississippi wants a divorce. They are not recognized as married by the state because the state does not allow gay marriage. The couple was married in (where else) San Francisco. Evidently they could afford to pay to go to California to get married but can’t afford to go there to get divorced.
Seems that they would still have property issues in MS though I can’t figure out how. I mean, if MS does not recognize gay marriage then it can’t recognize the property issues revolving around people who are gay and married in some other state. If they went to California and got divorced then it would be up to the California court to decide how property is divided and who pays what.
The issue of gay divorce is a problem for many gay folks who ran off to a gay marriage state, got married and then returned to a state that does not recognize gay marriage. The states rightly point out that they cannot grant a divorce for a marriage they do not recognize.
I think the woman living in MS, Lauren Beth Czekala-Chatham, should think long and hard before she demands a divorce be granted in a state that does not recognize her marriage. You see, she has a new girlfriend.
On a recent evening, in the one-story brick house she shares with her two children, a new girlfriend and several pets, Czekala-Chatham sat on the edge of a leather recliner, shaking her head.
“Why should I be treated differently, you know?” she said. “When the courthouse is a few blocks from here, I should be able to walk up there and get married. I should also be able to go up there and get divorced.” My Way News
If she were recognized as a married person then she is admitting to adultery. Since the state does not consider her married it can’t recognize her as an adulterer. But if she pushes the court for a divorce and is successful what would stop the court from deciding on the division of assets and the financial aspects based on her adultery?
The court could find in favor of the other partner and use this admission as the basis. Hell, it is likely she could be charged with a crime depending on MS law.
I agree with the state on this issue. It did not allow the marriage to take place and it does not recognize the marriage therefore it cannot act to undo what it does not recognize.
It seems to me that part of this is to force the state to recognize her marriage so she can undo it and then allow the pro gay marriage groups to use that as the basis for forcing MS to recognize (and possibly sanction) gay marriage.
This sucks for the people involved but perhaps they should have researched this before they traipsed off to California to get married so they could be a novelty item.
If they wanted to get married and be recognized as married then it seems to me they should reside in a state that recognizes gay marriage.
As is the case though, people in a special interest group want the rules changed to accommodate them.
Who knows? If she gives the court a good tongue lashing she might be successful but it will take a cunning linguist to pull it off…

Mississippi (Calorie) Burning
Feb 2, 2008 Political
Three members of the Mississippi Legislature want to make it a crime for restaurants (that receive a permit from the Mississippi Department of Health) to serve food to people who are obese. Representatives Mayhall, Read, and Shows will establish definitions of obesity for these establishments to follow and will require them to discriminate against obese people. There is no indication yet, as to whether restaurants would have to measure people and calculate body fat or body mass index to determine if they get to eat or get their fat butts booted to the street.
I guess since the civil rights movement the legislature has been at a loss for a group to discriminate against. Sure, they were able to discriminate against blacks for a few more decades, kill some civil rights workers and lynch some black men but the days of running around in sheets have long passed and elderly Mississippi legislators are longing for some other way to discriminate. In pops the fat folks and the bipartisan group of old white guys (the youngest is 67) is in all its glory because they now have another group of people to pick on and hell, a fat guy has not had a serious run for the presidency in a long time. It won’t be long before there are skinnys only water fountains and restaurants, back door entrances for fat people and laws making fat people ride in the back of the bus. What next, no driver’s license for fat people because they should be walking anyway? They will probably have to find another way to kill fatso people because the ropes might not be strong enough and the aged white guys probably can’t lift them in order to hang them anyway.
I wonder how they can discriminate next in this bastion of stupidity known as Mississippi? Maybe they can force gay people to move out of state to keep from spreading bloodborne or STDs. Perhaps they can discriminate against people with heart disease and only allow restaurants to sell them heart smart foods (cooked in that healthy southern style of using lard).
I have an idea for the legislators in Mississippi. Instead of doing stupid things like this why don’t you pass laws to improve the way your children learn? Why don’t you pass legislation that improves your educational system? You see, Mississippi ranks 48th out of all the states in how well their kids are educated. They have made great strides moving up from 49th in the previous survey. It is very important to ensure that children get a good education and that they are able to comprehend complex ideas. If you fail to give children a good education…
They grow up to be stupid legislators who propose stupid laws that discriminate.
Mississippi –
Dead last in number who complete high school
Dead last in percentage of students above advanced [grade 8] math
