Greetings!
Sep 22, 2010 asides, Political
Hello there, good reader. My name is Ogre (as I’ve been called for a couple decades), and Big Dog has graciously offered to allow me to post a note now and again here at the most excellent “Big Dog’s House” (Thanks, Big Dog!)
It still remains his house, and as such, all standards and rules shall apply. But on occasion, you will read something with a different author, and perhaps a slightly different twist. My position, politically, is always the freedom position. Whatever option affords more freedom, that’s the one I will select. Unfortunately, that leaves me without a political party today. I’m glad to discuss other ideas, and hear other opinions, but in the end, I’m supporting freedom. I can provide facts and details to back up my position, but I’m a little short on emotional support — which again, puts me at a disadvantage in today’s political process.
I’ve been registered as a Republican and as a Libertarian. I support some ideas from each of those parties. I’ve supported Ron Paul, because I think his views were quite superior to other options available at the time. I support principle over party which means, yes, I will support the guy who “doesn’t have a chance,” because the lesser of two evils is still evil.
I believe that “conservative” is a word that has lost all meaning today. Conservative used to be closely related to freedom, but through the past decade, it has been so mis-used by the media and others that it seldom means any more than than “opposition to Democrats.”
I don’t believe all Democrats are evil, but I do believe the party is one that is diametrically opposed to freedom and to me. In general, those who support Democrats, Liberals, Socialists, Marxists, and the like would prefer for me to be in jail or dead than for me to be free. And yes, I honestly believe that. Oh, they won’t admit it, but by passing laws that make me a criminal, that is the end result. I just want to be free, and yes, that includes the freedom to endanger ones self.
I’ve lived in a large number of US states and have spent at least one night in around 36 of them. I’ve spent time in 16 foreign countries as a Marine, a tourist, and a missionary. I think that gives me a different perspective on freedom and people than many others.
I hope you will enjoy my posts, and I always welcome comments and discussions on them. Also, though my posts may occasionally sounds hopeless and sad, know that I am always quite full of joy, even while living under what I consider to be a quite repressive government. That’s because I know how the story ends, and I know that evil will not prevail in the end. At the same time, evil will certainly win many battles. Anything else you’d like to know about me?
Oh, and if you’re looking for examples of how this is a repressive government, I can issue you my traditional challenge: Go ahead and try and name something you can do (not a thought) that you can do without asking government permission or breaking a law. And no, going to the bathroom isn’t one thing, because if you use a toilet, that’s highly regulated, and if you don’t use one, that’s creating and disposing of hazardous waste without a permit. 🙂
