This is the Free Jack blogburst. I have not posted about this in a while. Thanks to Cao for this week’s story.

Cox Cartoon

The theoretical scene on the right which Cox and Forkum so aptly put into cartoon format, is in beginning to become, to my utter sadness and dismay, sadly, commonplace. It is for this reason that we should continue to “Defend the Defenders” as Pantano’s mother did when he was accused, and as the marines in Haditha find themselves accused; even before the evidence is all in.

Now, with the Taliban killing people left in right in the southern parts of Afghanistan, it will prove interesting to see what happens because there are already rumors that the government is going to call upon the Northern Alliance to do something about it. You know–the Northern Alliance “Warlords”? Who resisted disarming? There is good reason that they refused to disarm, the picture in Afghanistan is not a pretty one, and it just goes to demonstrate clearly that diplomats absolutely should have no voice in military matters.

Wouldn’t it be interesting if that is in fact what happens and they will call upon Jack for his assistance in erradicating the vermin which Karzai has been trying to ‘make peace’ with?

400 dead last month, around 800 dead this month–the journalists don’t seem to be complaining about the deaths of coalition forces…probably because they’re not wearing black turbans and yelling ‘allahu akhbar!”

With the recent hub bub about Haditha and their cries about human rights violations, what about the Taliban’s human rights violations of coalition soldiers? I guess those don’t count.

If something isn’t done about this -by someone who knows something about terrorists and how to deal with them-(and not some guy sitting behind a computer who calls himself a counter terrorism expert who’s never even been to Afghanistan)-the turnover to forces will be a literal bloodbath in favor of the Taliban.

The coalition deaths over the past two months have surpassed the entire death toll from the 2001-2002 war.

When Zarqawi was killed I noticed Khalilzad standing in the limelight with his thumbs up next to PM Maliki. I can’t imagine he ever had anything to do with that…the only thing he seems to be good at is demonizing American soldiers, asking who shot first when there is a scurmish with a terrorist, and releasing more terrorists and then feigning surprise when more suicide bombings occur.

Yet, at this moment, Jack and Brent remain at Pulacharke prison and we’d still like to know why when the Taliban are running free; and they’ve been releasing MORE every month. The same policy of appeasement has begun in Iraq, thanks in part to Khalilzad, who moved from being the Ambassador to Afghanistan and screwed things up there pretty well, and then moved on to Iraq to do the same thing.

So what can we do? Well, anyone reading this with their own blog, and who believes the WoT still needs fighting, can sign up for the weekly Free Jack Idema Blogburst by emailing Cao or Rottweiler Puppy for details. I’d urge everyone to do this, as we’re still terribly short on takers. If you want to know more about the story, Cao’s Blog has a large section devoted to Jack Idema. There’s also a timeline here, and, of course, a huge amount of information is available over at SuperPatriots, without whose work none of us would have learned about Jack’s story.

Big Ben Gets Tackled By His Motorcycle

My friend Rosemary at Knickerbocker News sent me an email last night inviting me to cross post her item about Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Ben Rothlisberger who was involved in a very serious motorcycle accident. I was unable to post it last night and rather than try to put up the post now I will instead link to it here.

Rothlisberger is a very talented and gifted athlete who led his team to a victory in the last Superbowl. I am no Steelers fan but my friend and sometimes writer here, Surfside, is so I was happy for her when they won though I wanted anyone else but them. Be that as it may, Big Ben is a class guy (and one of the only Steelers I really like) unlike many professional athletes who act stupid most of the time. Ben was riding a motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet. Here is a description of his injuries, according to the police:

Physicians would not describe most of the injuries at the request of Roethlisberger’s family, but city police said he lost most of his teeth, fractured his left sinus cavity bone, suffered a nine-inch cut on the back of his head and a broken jaw, and injured both knees.

This guy suffered injuries to his head and only his head. The doctors indicated (later in the article) that he had minor injuries to the rest of his body. If Ben had been wearing a helmet he would likely have walked away from this one with a little soreness. I can not understand what goes through people’s heads when they ride these things. This is particularly interesting in Ben’s case because he is in a career where he is required to wear a helmet to work. Rothlisberger would not think of not wearing a helmet in a football game (even if he were allowed) because he knows some 300 pound guy might take his head off. He wears a helmet to protect himself from big guys who hit hard.

I am here to tell you that the biggest, baddest guy in the NFL does not hit a person with as much force as is exerted when a person is thrown from a motorcycle going 35 miles an hour. The truth is, Rothlisberger is lucky to be alive and will be fortunate to get back to his career in time for the start of the season. It boggles the mind how foolish seemingly smart people can be.

My prayers go out to him and his family. I pray for a speedy recovery and i pray that when he is back up and at it he considers a helmet for his off activities off the field as well.

Mexico Defeats Iran In Soccer

The World Cup Soccer tournament got off to a great start when Mexico defeated Iran.

There is no word as to whether the demented President of Iran had the team executed.

Make The State Attorney’s Office Pay

I have been following the Duke lacrosse team rape case since it started. I don’t follow it closely because I believe the guys are getting a bad rap on this one. The dancer is making claims that are contrary to what happened and she has changed her story a number of times. The District Attorney, Mike Nifong used this case to push forward so that he could win reelection. The police have omitted important items and the way things have been handled could result in a lot of “evidence” being thrown out. This is very disturbing because if the police and the DA did not play games, charges might never have been filed based on the accounts of the night.

Instead, we have three guys who had to post $400,000 bond and who are each going to be saddled with legal fees. Attorneys are nor cheap and the longer this case goes on the more money these people will have to fork out. This is a shame because if things were done correctly, these guys might not have been charged and would not be out money (and time).

I think if the case falls apart or gets dismissed then the DA’s office should have to reimburse the players for the money they had to pay, basically so Nifong could get reelected. We need to start making the DAs around the country accountable for what they are doing. If they bring action and it proves incorrect or their negligence causes people to lose money, then they should have to pay it back. “We made a mistake” does not cut it when your negligence costs people time and money.

We have cases like this in Maryland. I voted for Robert Ehrlich and I like the guy but he has incompetent people working in his Department of Transportation. From Secretary Robert Flanagan on down they are unwilling to review cases and do the right thing. The lose important transcripts or taped conversations when they back up the media and then make the person involved go back through the system again because of their screw up. The Motor vehicle Administration in Maryland imposes its will without following the law and will not admit when it makes mistakes such as failing to respond to legal paperwork which lands people in legal trouble.

I will save my rant against Maryland for later but suffice it to say, if you are famous or part of a political family you get a pass from the state. Everyone else gets screwed and they do not care how much it costs you. They should be required to pay that back!

Keeping with Duke, the players have been getting screwed and Nifong should have to pay for allowing it to happen.

TEASER: Sydney Ponson use to pitch for the Orioles. He received his third DWI while a member of the team. The police pulled him over and smelled alcohol and he was arrested. I do not know if he failed a field sobriety or not. The police and the state’s attorney were continuing with the case as they would anyone else. The Orioles got an offer for Ponson from another team and the Orioles wanted to get rid of him. About a day after the potential trade was announced, the DWI charges against Ponson were dropped because the state did not have enough evidence. I have been in court as a witness for many DWIs. They have had less evidence on some people than they had against Ponson and those people were convicted. You don’t suppose the lawyer who owns the Orioles made a few calls and it was all taken care of so the DWI would not hold up the trade, now do you? I know a guy who has bee fighting with the MVA for 5 years over a DWI. He has met the probationary requirements but the incompetence of the MVA and the state officials has caused this guy problems and cost him more then $10,000. Now you see why they should have to pay for their incompetence? I will probably write about this in the future. I am waiting to decide until it gets closer to the election in this state. If I write, I want to have an impact on the race for governor.

Mr. Softee Is Dead

James Conway, the man who, along with his brother, founded Mr. Softee ice cream died today at the age of 78. It is indeed a sad day in neighborhoods all across the nation as children stop to pay homage to the man who brought us that incessant jingle that they can not get out of their heads but that made them go nuts for ICE CREAM!

There is no confirmation that, upon hearing the news, Bill Clinton said “Mr. Softee, no wonder the guy is dead. If I had that problem I would just kill myself! I guess the guy never heard of the blue pill.”

The New York Times is reporting this but you have to log in to read it.
