Citizen Held To Higher Standard Than Maryland Governor
Aug 7, 2008 Political
A Maryland man, Walter Abbott, was arrested earlier this year for sending an email to Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley threatening to “choke the life out of him. Abbott is a business owner who is losing work because of illegal immigrants. He took exception to the governor’s pro illegal immigrant stance and support for CASA de Maryland. In the email Abbott stated:
“If I ever got close enough, I’d wrap my hands around your throat and choke the life out of you, you piece of sh*t American sellout.” Baltimore Examiner
Abbott was charged with threatening a public official and conveying a threat. His initial bond was $2 million but it was reduced. He was placed on home detention and that was eventually removed and he was allowed to work, with stipulations, prior to his trial.
His trial was to begin yesterday but has now been postponed until October. Abbott faces up to six years in jail and a $5,000 fine for his threat.
Given that the Governor has police officers around him all the time, it is unlikely that Abbott could have ever acted up the threat and his claims are that he was blowing off steam over losing work because of illegals. This will play out in court as it should but is this a case of hypocrisy?
Governor Martin O’Malley is a hothead and has been known to express his anger. In fact, O’Malley made a public threat to two radio show hosts, on the air, for everyone to hear. In 2002, after a family was firebombed and killed by a drug dealer who the family had reported, O’Malley was getting beaten up by the media. He was the mayor of Baltimore at the time. He got into his car after a meeting and heard the discussion between Rob Douglas and Chip franklin then of WBAL (both have taken other jobs). He became angry and ordered his driver to take him to the studio.
O’Malley demanded to address the issue on air to the surprised staff at the station and was afforded that opportunity. He got into some heated discussions with the hosts and took particular offense when Douglas remarked that if the residents keep voting in the same nitwits year after year they get what they deserve.
O’Malley decided that after the exchange it was a good time to leave and he parted with this:
“On that note, that probably is a good way to exit,” he said. “And gentlemen, if you enjoyed that, come outside after the show, and I’ll kick your ass.” Baltimore Sun
What is the difference between this threat by a public official and the one toward a public official? O’Malley is just as wrong in threatening the show hosts as Abbott was for threatening O’Malley. O’Malley was not arrested, held on a $2 million bond, and then placed on home detention. O’Malley never faced six years in jail and a $5,000 fine. In fact, he went on to win the Gubernatorial election.
O’Malley is a public official and one expects better behavior from those elected to lead. Regardless, how can they punish Abbott for his threat while ignoring the threat of the then mayor? It is a double standard and the whole issue smacks of hypocrisy.
O’Malley has armed guards and the show hosts did not so the threat to them was even more likely to be carried out than the threat to O’Malley. If O’Malley’s defense is that it was just a comment of frustration then they must allow for that in Abbott’s case.
Personally, I wish Chip Franklin would have taken him up on the offer because I think Franklin would have beaten him half to death and shut that smug mouth of his up. I would have paid money to see Franklin kick O’Malley’s ass all over Baltimore. [Note to law enforcement: This is not a threat from me. I am merely expanding upon O’Malley’s desire for the fight and what I would like to have seen as a result of it]
I hope the defense brings this up in court. Even if it does not make much difference in the trial it would be nice to have them point out the blatant double standard and demonstrate how the elected elite get away with those things for which we are held accountable.

Maryland Governor Pulls a Ted Kennedy
Apr 13, 2008 Political
The governor of Maryland, Martin O’Malley, is a far left politician who governs like most from the left. He takes feel good ideas and runs with them regardless of fact or reason. He has bought off on global warming and intends to make Maryland the model of being green. The boy governor just signed legislation requiring an increase in renewable energy but like all liberals, he does not want the requirements to interfere with life. Ted Kennedy opposed wind farms because they blocked his view and O’Malley opposes them on state owned land because they will take away from the natural beauty of the areas set aside for residents.
“While we must continue to explore and make progress on creating a more sustainable and independent energy future for Maryland, we will not do so at the expense of the special lands we hold in the public trust,” the Democratic governor said.
O’Malley spoke at a news conference at a scenic overlook in the Savage River State Forest. Opponents had claimed that allowing 40-story windmills on state-owned land in mountainous western Maryland would reduce its recreational value, spoil the landscape and lower property values, especially in the thriving Deep Creek Lake resort area of Garrett County. WBAL
I am willing to bet that if the state decides that wind turbines will go in a neighborhood or on lands near a neighborhood he will not allow citizens to nix the deal based on natural beauty or property values. I am quite certain that the lands that home owners hold dear will be confiscated under eminent domain and used for the turbines. The people will have little say in the matter and O’Malley will chide those who oppose as enemies of the environment.
This is just another example of a liberal making a rule that only applies to others. The state should be the leader in this effort and state lands should be used to put up the wind farms. Instead, private property will one day be confiscated for this purpose. Mark my words, private property will be taken for the common good and the harm to property owners will not be a problem the liberals will care about.
If this state wants to put up wind turbines to generate electricity I suggest putting the turbines outside the governor’s mansion. O’Malley is so full of hot air he could power the state for decades. If they ever figure out how to produce electricity from manure then the Maryland legislature could provide power to the country for the rest of the century.

Barry Rascovar Gives an A for Failure
Dec 22, 2007 Political
Barry Rascovar of the Gazette in Maryland has given his annual grade to our new Governor Martin O’Malley (MOM). The grade is an A – minus, a little better than the B he awarded Governor Ehrlich in his first term. The major difference in the grade seems to be that Rascovar is happy that MOM raised taxes, in fact the largest in the state’s history, and that MOM did this in an effort to tackle a tough budget deficit. Rascovar indicated that Ehrlich did not do this and he was a bit less mature in his first year. I can’t imagine this is true given MOM’s propensity to cry and whine about everything but let us look at what he did to earn that A.
MOM blew a 2 billion dollar surplus left to him by Ehrlich, mostly to pay off his political backers, and then he called a special session of the legislature to address the budget problem. Rather than reduce spending and cutting waste, the Democratically controlled legislature voted to raise taxes so high they will burden everyone in the state regardless of income. The issue of slots, one that was dead for Ehrlich so as to deny him the success, is now going to go before voters and many of the tax issues are tied to the slots bill being implemented. The legislature left this to the people because they were too cowardly to tackle it themselves. I wonder why we were not allowed to vote on whether our taxes should be raised as well.
Barry Rascovar probably would have given a higher grade but, to him, MOM did not go deep enough into our pockets. He, according to Rascovar, should have raised gas taxes and indexed that to inflation. Of course, the tax would never go down, it would stay the same or increase. There is fairness for you. Rascovar thinks this would have raised more money for social programs, as if we do not waste enough money on them now.
MOM raised taxes when we are getting ready for a down turn and when the values of homes are declining. He raised taxes during a period when home foreclosures are at an all time high due to people lacking the intelligence or experience to make good decisions. Barry Rascovar seems to think that these taxes are going to be wonderful and fix everything when, in fact, they will actually stifle growth and will cause people who can afford to, to leave the state for more friendly neighboring states.
The tax increases, on top of the 75% electric rate increase (one MOM promised to stop) will mean hard times for many families. This earns an A from Rascovar who must have some sadistic desire to see people suffer. However, this is typical liberalism. Cause as much pain as possible and then allow the government to swoop in and promise to fix it. Get reelected and cause more pain. It is a viscous cycle that keeps repeating because people are not smart enough to see how badly the Democrats are hurting them.
Of course, MOM comes from Baltimore City where the schools were the lowest performing in the state. He is used to leading unintelligent people who do not have the knowledge to change their circumstances. As long as these people exist there will be people like MOM in charge.
Barry Rascovar might just be in line to head the school board. His grading system, one that rewards for failure, is right in line with MOM’s philosophical views. What this state does not need is a bunch of unthinking, unintelligent dimwits running around making decisions about the future of the state.
We already have that in our legislature, in MOM, and in the toady reporters who lick their boots.
How does shoe leather taste Barry?
Remember those who voted to increase your taxes when they ask for your vote…

Maryland Governor Awakens from Coma, has Epiphany
Sep 26, 2007 Uncategorized
Maryland’s Governor, Martin O’Malley, has awakened from a coma this week and has discovered information that was widely known for the last four years. O’Malley has just now discovered that millions of dollars leave the state of Maryland and go to Pennsylvania, Delaware, and West Virginia. He has just realized that slot machines in those states are drawing huge crowds from Maryland, crowds that are more than happy to spend their money in places that are more accommodating to their needs. It would appear as if he has also just discovered that Maryland’s horse racing industry is in serious financial trouble and that slots at race tracks might help. He is only about four and a half years too late.
When O’Malley was the mayor of Baltimore, a city that is no better off because of his tenure (despite his claims to the contrary), he was opposed to slot machines. He said that slots were a morally bankrupt method of obtaining revenue to pay the bills. Of course, his opposition came when Republican Governor Robert Ehrlich wanted those slot machines. Some of O’Malley’s fellow Democrats in Annapolis were also opposed to slot machines and, as is true with all Democrats, preferred to raise taxes in order to provide satiety for their spending appetites.
The State of Maryland has a 1.5 billion dollar budget deficit. This is the fault of the Democrats in this state and only an idiot believes otherwise. The Democrats have held power here for over forty years and Ehrlich was only the third or fourth Republican Governor in the state’s history. Previous governors and their Democratic lap dogs in Annapolis have continued to spend unfettered and they have imposed spending requirements without securing appropriate funding sources. They refuse to cut government growth and make only token budget cuts because to them the only way to solve problems is to remove money from the people who actually work to earn it.
For four years Governor Ehrlich tried to get slot machines to raise revenue for the horse racing industry and to increase cash flow into the state coffers. For four years he met opposition from people who allowed their political agendas to get in the way of functioning professionally and honestly. These very same politicians seem to have had a change of heart and will now grant O’Malley the slot machines. They will give him the win Ehrlich could not obtain. The only thing that has changed in this time is that the deficit has increased. Now, there are those still opposed but they are willing to compromise, something they tell us politicians must be willing to do. Too bad these dimwits were not willing to compromise when a Republican was in the driver’s seat. If they had, we would be on our way to recovery.
My personal opinion is that I do not care about slot machines one way or another. I gamble occasionally but have never been to the other states to gamble. I believe that having the machines is a good way to increase revenue and that if the people want them then we should get them. I do not believe the issue should be used as a political weapon while the state falls deeper into the abyss. I also find it hard to take people opposed to slots seriously when they say that gaming is not the way to make money and that gambling affects poor people who spend their money on the games of chance rather than on their bills.
I have a hard time because the state of Maryland runs a lottery. It is not just a one pick a day small time operation either. It started as one, where a three digit number was drawn every evening. This quickly morphed into three and four digit drawings two times a day, mega millions, match 5, the lotto, as well as a number of other games and special events. They even have a zillion varieties of scratch off lotteries. All these games are played by the people who the Democrats worry about so what difference will slots make? It is not like these things are out of the control of government because the state is solely responsible for the lottery and for deciding how many games are designed and introduced.
The state runs the lottery and it has race tracks where on any given day during the racing season, people can be found spending money betting on horses. The state has not shut down that industry and they have not shut down the lottery and yet slot machines give them a moral dilemma? Give me a break.
I predicted after the election that we would get slots but I also predicted we would get tax increases in every venue imaginable. The Speaker wants tax increases and the governor, in addition to wanting to raise taxes, (after his epiphany) wants slots. The compromise of which they speak is that we will get both. O’Malley is on his tour of the state touting all the taxes he is going to raise. Gas, cigarettes, income, sales, services, property (they say they will lower the property tax rate but we all know that means they will increase our assessments so we will pay more), you name it and he is going to tax it. If he could figure out how to measure it, he would tax the air we breathe.
I will not be a party to these games and have no intention of willingly forking over more money. I had always said that I would not go to other states just to play slots but that if we had them here I would play every once in a while. I now vow that I will never play slots in this state and I ask others to do the same. Go to the other states and support them because Maryland does not deserve your support. I recommend that you visit Delaware to play the slots because they have no sales tax. While you are there you might as well buy the things you need and avoid the Maryland taxes at the same time. You folks who smoke and happen to live near Virginia, you might want to go there because the taxes on cigarettes there will be about $1.70 ($17.00 a carton) lower than Maryland. Folks should also consider Internet purchases (that is until MD finds a way to tax that). I also recommend that anyone who can, move to another state. I cannot move just yet but I want out of this mad house so I will stay open to other opportunities.
The state of Maryland is in a terrible state because of the Democrats who have run it for decades. It has been run into the ground and now they have begun digging. The poor school system has produced generations of people who are not bright enough to recognize this so they keep voting for the same idiots who got us in this mess. As I have been saying, we need to vote all of these poor performers out of office and replace them with competent people who actually have experience in the real world.
It is time for a revolution in this state. It is time to rid ourselves of the vermin that infests Annapolis and it is time for us to take charge of our future because left in the hands of these idiots, there will be no brighter days ahead.
As an aside, I am kind of glad that the taxes will screw the poor and working class folks very greatly and that it will eat the hell out of the income of the wealthy. I want them to feel every ounce of pain that the tax increases cause and I want them to feel it each and every day. They voted for this idiot to run the state and I want their choice to hurt them as much as possible. I want them to pay all these increases only to see their money given to ILLEGALS for college. I want them to be so devastated by these taxes that if carpet costs 10 cents a square yard they could not afford to upholster a gnat’s ass. Pain is a great teacher and until these people start feeling a lot of pain for their choices they will continue to make bad ones. Perhaps if they are affected enough they will finally get the message.
For those who believe this idiot governor when he says that the taxes will only affect the rich. He is lying through his teeth. Remember, he was going to stop the electric rate hike if you would only vote for him. How did that work out, by the way? Oh yeah, 75% increase. Add that to your new taxes and this guy is costing you a lot of money.
Some people never learn.
