Edwards’ Plan Forces Doctor Visits
Sep 3, 2007 Uncategorized
John Edwards has vowed to give every American health care. I am not sure if he means that the government will provide health care for everyone or if he means that everyone who has it offered will be required to get it and the government (read taxpayers) will cover everyone else. In any event, Edwards is clear about one thing, you will not have control of your health care decisions. John Edwards’ plan will require everyone to have regular doctor visits. Once again big brother will decide for you how to best handle issues in your life.
“It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care,” he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. “If you are going to be in the system, you can’t choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK.”
He noted, for example, that women would be required to have regular mammograms in an effort to find and treat “the first trace of problem.” Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, announced earlier this year that her breast cancer had returned and spread. Yahoo News
The decision to visit a doctor is and should be a personal one and not one mandated or dictated by the government. While I agree that preventive care is a great idea and that people should get regular check-ups, I am adamantly opposed to the government forcing me or anyone else to get those check-ups. I will agree that if the government provides the health care coverage then it should have the right to require certain check-ups but for those of us who pay quite a bit of money in premiums, we should be able to decide the issue on our own. We were already responsible enough to pay for health care, we are certainly capable of deciding if and when we should go to the doctor.
Edwards cites the mammogram issue and the piece discusses his wife, who incidentally is dying of cancer despite a great health care plan. The fact of the matter is people get sick and people die and while preventive medicine will catch and help cure some diseases, people are still going to eventually die. Life is a sexually transmitted terminal condition and the only certainty is that one day we shall all die. We certainly do not need a 120 billion dollar a year entitlement plan to give incentive to businesses to stop providing coverage and have us all sign on to the government plan. How will Edwards’ ambulance chasing buddies ever make money if the government runs health care?
If I ever go on government provided health care (and not Medicare because I PAY for that) then they can tell me when to see a doctor. As long as I foot the bill I will decide that for myself. John Edwards can worry about his own family and let me take care of mine.
I guess after this Edwards will require all of us to have a lawyer…

Congressman Gilchrest has Another Challenger
Sep 2, 2007 Uncategorized
My dislike of Congressman Wayne Gilchrest’s positions on a number of issues is no secret to my regular readers (I know who the three of you are). I made it known that if Gilchrest had a challenger, regardless of party, I would support that person (unless his positions were even worse). I also made it known that my network in Gilchrest’s district would be influenced in their votes by my opinions. I was elated earlier to find out that Gilchrest had a challenger from each party. Then, a second Democrat joined the fray which meant Gilchrest would have to work to keep his seat.
The news keeps getting better (unless you are Wayne Gilchrest) because a second Republican has joined the fun filled yuk fest and will challenge Wayne for his seat. I am hopeful that one of these Republicans defeats Gilchrest in the primary and goes on to win the general election but if Gilchrest is the nominee a Democrat will get my vote and the vote of a large number of others.
I can only hope that my writings have helped spur the interests of others who want to oust this guy and work to make America a better place where members of Congress work for the people and not the special interests or in accordance with their views rather than those of the constituency.
Good luck gentlemen. You will need it to beat an entrenched member.

Edwards’ Snake Oil Show Goes to Iowa
Aug 30, 2007 Uncategorized
John Edwards and his wife are in Iowa selling snake oil to the local Democrats who stand around with their hands out waiting in uncontrollable anticipation of the billions of dollars they will get as John Boy redistributes wealth in an attempt to socialize America. People cry as John’s hillbilly demeanor and twang makes them forget he made millions by duping juries in the same manner he is duping them. He and his wife make a great team as their vaudeville show/comedy routine makes them look like a regular couple in these here Yoonited States. Ms. Edwards beats on the health care drum using fear and class envy to bring about a point:
…and they fall into a hush when Elizabeth talks about health care. “Ninety-five thousand women in this state are uninsured,” she says, “and if you are uninsured, you are 30% to 50% more likely to die of breast cancer.” Her words resonate with the knowledge that her breast cancer has spread incurably to her ribs and hip. She mentions her husband’s health-care plan, which promises to cover every American at a cost to taxpayers of $90 billion to $120 billion a year, and says, “I want you to ask the other candidates, ‘When your health-care plan passes, what is the number of uninsured?’ That number needs to be zero.” Then she hands the microphone to her husband.
John Boy wants to charge the taxpayers 90 to 120 BILLION dollars a year to provide health insurance for people who do not have it. While she mentions her husband’s health care plan (for the nation) she fails to mention the health care plan he currently has for his family. As a millionaire he can afford great insurance for his family and the best doctors, and yet, his wife is dying of the very breast cancer she claims the uninsured are more likely to die from. I imagine that there is a statistic to show this but we could take any woman in that room who was not insured and did not have breast cancer and make the argument that people get breast cancer whether they are insured or not. I doubt there is a direct relationship between not having insurance and getting breast cancer (or any other ailment). More likely, poorer people who can not afford insurance are more likely to engage in behaviors associated with getting the disease. While people in Iowa cry at the touch of John Edwards as if he is the second coming of Jesus Christ, let us not forget that this is the man who said that if John Kerry were elected president people like Christopher Reeve [the paralyzed actor] will walk again. It is not likely that will occur in Edwards’ lifetime but one thing is certain, the person who is president will have little to do with it.
The Edwards snake oil show continues as John Boy talks badly about George Bush (a requisite for any Democrat) and as his wife tells people that Hillary will energize Republicans. I do not disagree with that last statement but Liz is using it to strike fear in those who do not want Republicans in office. Of course Edwards has an aggressive agenda that is filled with the same issues everypolitician promises to fix. Edwards though, has a few in there he actually helped cause:
He isn’t ranting; he’s twanging like a bluegrass banjo, rolling along in full control—outraged on behalf of people who have lost their jobs or pensions to corporate restructuring, people who watch their children go off to “this mess of a war in Iraq.” And he’s enthusiastic about all the things he’ll do for these people as soon as he shuts down those rascally insiders: pass universal health care and middle-class tax relief, raise taxes on rich folks, end the war, stop global warming, rebuild labor unions, bail people out of foreclosure, and let’s not forget highways and bridges and “college for everyone” and an antitrust investigation of Big Oil, and on and on.
John Edwards has his hands in the mortgage problems and while he is promising to bail people out, companies he is involved in are foreclosing on them. Edwards promises to bail out people who can not pay their loans (another taxpayer bill to pay) because he espouses what a lot of Liberals believe in and that is there is no personal responsibility. Charlatans (like Edwards), we are told, deceived people. Isn’t it more probable that people made bad decisions with regard to buying a home? Each individual is responsible for knowing what he can afford and should never allow a lender to decide in his stead.
I also like the way John Boy talks about the cost to consumers and how health care costs so much because of drug and insurance companies being in the pockets of politicians (of both parties) who rig the system against the consumer. The average Joe like these Iowans are helpless unless John Boy is elected. What most people fail to realize is that lawyers like John Edwards (and including Edwards) cost consumers billions of dollars with frivolous lawsuits based on junk science in order to win extremely huge payouts by the very companies he derides. Those companies, in turn, pass the cost of the lawsuits on to customers. Additionally, patent laws regarding drugs force developers to charge a fortune for the new drugs in order to recoup R&D costs before the patents run out. This [the patent process] is one that members of Congress can fix but I don’t recall ever seeing where John Boy addressed this while he served. I don’t recall him addressing most of this stuff though I bet if we look closely enough we will see he opposed tort reform.
This guy is a smooth talker who could charm the skin off a snake and the fact that his dying wife assists him as a shill is all the more shameful.
The Democrats need to think long and hard before they select this guy.

Is Hsu the Democrat’s Abramoff
Aug 29, 2007 Uncategorized
Jack Abramoff became a household name when it was disclosed that he was using a lot of money to influence members of Congress. The Democrats successfully linked him exclusively to Republicans by either lying about donations (as in Howard Dean stating that no Abramoff money went to Democrats) or by assuring voters that the money they received was a pure as the driven snow (like Harry Reid). Abramoff was whisked away to jail before he could name names, ones that would certainly include Democrats.
Now there is a new name on the horizon that is causing a stir with regard to money for candidates. The man is Norman Hsu (pronounced shoe) and he is a huge supporter of Democrats and particularly the Clintons. On the list of people to whom he has given or raised money for, a Republican is yet to be seen. Hsu has been a huge supporter of the Democratic Party and has raised millions of dollars by soliciting donations from friends. The donations are in question because there are enough indications that Hsu donated his own money in the names of others or that he reimbursed those who donated. There are enough red flags to warrant an investigation into his dealings.
Hsu is also wanted on an outstanding warrant stemming from some a bankruptcy and failure to appear years ago in California. His attorney has indicated that it is a mistake and that neither he nor Hsu remember the matter being settled in a fashion that is now causing the problems. In any event, when the story about questionable donations was released yesterday the Clinton campaign had this to say:
A Clinton campaign spokesman, Howard Wolfson, said in an email: “Norman Hsu is a longtime and generous supporter of the Democratic party and its candidates, including Senator Clinton. During Mr. Hsu’s many years of active participation in the political process, there has been no question about his integrity or his commitment to playing by the rules, and we have absolutely no reason to call his contributions into question.” WSJ
It would appear that now there is a question about his integrity and playing by the rules because the Clinton campaign has decided to donate the money that was directly donated by him to charity. They are divesting themselves because of the legal issues in California but have decided to keep the money he solicited from others, though that money remains questionable.
When the Abramoff scandal hit the news Republicans were coming out of the woodwork to get rid of any money connected to him. Now it appears as if Democrats are having the same reaction to Hsu. Obama has received money as has Al Franken and Hsu also released these names:
In the email to the Journal, Mr. Hsu listed several Democratic politicians to whom he has given money, and said he has never asked any for favors. They include Pennsylvania Gov. Edward G. Rendell; New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine; Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy; California Sen. Dianne Feinstein; and Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown. WSJ
None of these folks have indicated what they are doing with the money but I find it difficult to believe, given the criminals on that list, that favors were not a part of the deal. None of these folks has a clean record with regard to ethics and most on this list have been bought before. Therefore, I find Hsu’s assertions rather unbelievable.
This incident has the potential to be particularly damaging to Hillary Rodham given the Clinton’s illegal ties to China and the fact that Hsu is from Hong Kong. The idea that illegal donations would not be tolerated by the Clintons is humorous given Hillary’s difficulties with people who made illegal contributions and then fled the country after being indicted. Hillary claims not to know what this person was up to but she is has denied being involved in other illegal fund raising ventures even though she was caught on video tape participating in the process. She will soon testify under oath in the case.
Will Norman Hsu be the Democrat’s Abramoff? Only time will tell but one thing is for certain. The Abramoff scandal involved nearly as many Democrats as Republicans but Hsu loved Democrats and this scandal is owned exclusively by them.
In a related item, what is it about Democratic supporters and illegal donations? A George Soros group was fined “$775,000 for using unregulated soft money to boost John Kerry and other Democratic candidates during the 2004 elections.” The Politico

Craig Sees Career Flushed Down Toilet
Aug 29, 2007 Uncategorized
Senator Larry Craig pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in order to avoid being charged with lewd behavior, or so it seems. The police report seems pretty specific but it is a matter of what were his intentions and were his actions misinterpreted. I don’t know because I was not there but I know what I would think if the guy in the stall next to me was playing trying to play footsie with me. Craig is in full defense as he claims that he is not gay and that he did nothing wrong. That is what most people would do but then those who did nothing wrong would probably not plead guilty. I believe he did not want to fight this because it looks bad and he could be found guilty of the lewdness.
The important thing in this is the reaction of the Republican party. No one is defending the guy and no one is making excuses for him. He did something wrong and that is being addressed. The matter has been referred to the Senate Ethics Committee and there are Republicans calling for his resignation. Mitt Romney no longer no loner has Craig working with his campaign and John McCain called the situation “disgraceful.”
This is what Republicans did in the Foley case and what they generally do when one commits some bad act. If a Democrat does these kinds of things his fellow Democrats throw him a party and talk about diversity. One only needs to look at Barney Frank and what happened with him to see how Democrats will allow all kinds of behavior within their ranks, behavior they will condemn when displayed by others.
I don’t know if Craig should go or not because I don’t know all the particulars and, quite frankly, it is not for me to say because he is not my Senator. If Craig were a Senator from my state I would be asking him to step down or to publicly state he will not run for reelection next year. I doubt Craig will win reelection but one never knows.
It is certain that had it been one of my Senators then reelection would be assured. They are both Democrats and Maryland would vote for Osama bin Laden if he ran as a Democrat.
