Robert F Kennedy and Global Warming
Jan 17, 2007 Political
There is a post from Robert F Kennedy’s blog and it came via the Huffington “Daily Brief”. The title of the blog entry is “For the Last Stubborn Holdouts on Global Warming…” Here is what Kennedy had to say about the unusual warmth that has enveloped the northeast:
Last week I saw robins and bluebirds in upstate New York where they don’t usually arrive before April. Crocuses and daffodils were in bloom everywhere. A friend ate asparagus he harvested in the normally frozen Catskills in the first week of January. Turtles in downstate New York, like bears in Scandinavia, forgot to hibernate for the first time in human history…
…seismic shifts in global weather patterns are already dramatically altering the local ecosystems that for eons have defined America’s landscape. Nature has achieved a balance that has been relatively stable for 20,000 years. The reliable milestones of its annual rhythms–like flowers blooming and robins returning in the spring, and animals hibernating in winter–form the pulse and fabric of the passing years. They connect us to our history, give context to our communities and form the foundation of American culture, our art, literature, poetry and architecture.
The first thing that I want to know is how does Kennedy know that it is the first time in history that bears forgot to hibernate. I know that Ted is old but he has not been around long enough to actually verify this. This article is designed to dupe those among us who fall for these mindless games. This is like when one of them spoke of global warming on the coldest day of the year. It is a ruse, a sham, and people should realize that there is no cause/effect relationship between the events. It is warmer than usual but that does not mean it is because of global warming. It is speculation but it makes them feel good and it fools people who are not bright enough to see that these events are not necessarily related. The people who believe this are the same kind who will not ask about the bears and hibernation.
So, let me address what Kennedy did not so I can give you the fair and balanced report. I saw ice storms throughout the Midwest. I saw ice storms destroying produce in California. I see on the news that cars are sliding all over the icy roads and that nearly 60 people have been killed as a result of the ice storms. I see that thousands of people are without power and heat and they are trying to survive as record ice storms and cold weather grip part of the nation. I see places that do not normally get this kind of weather suffer from it and I see that the northeast has been hit by the same storm system and that schools were closed because of the ice.
So, how is it that global warming allowed Kennedy to see this warmth and I see cold and ice? Perhaps it is because weather comes and goes in patterns and sometimes they are hot and sometimes they are cold. I know that under global warming there can not be ice storms because according to Al Gore the ice caps are melting. I also know that those who believe this pseudoscience will say that global warming is responsible for the ice storms. You can not have it both ways. Either global warming, by definition, can not be global icing.
I guess I am still a hold out and always will be. I see this as an abnormal weather pattern that has brought both unusual warmth and terrible cold. I see it as nature and not caused by man or what man is doing. I, unlike Kennedy, do not suffer from clouded judgment and political agenda. I also am not fooled by the dinginess of the liberal wackos who want me to believe that because I drive an SUV I made it warmer but their air travel all over has done nothing to influence the environment. My position is that neither did much to influence the environment but if they are right then they are the ones messing things up.
It will be 17 degrees tonight where I live. It was warmer last week but now it is getting colder. Maybe I can get people to believe we are really heading for a new ice age and make a movie (and lots of money) about it.
Hey Robert, stick to something you Kennedys actually know about, like substance abuse.

Be Prepared for Four Years of Broken Promises, Maryland
Jan 17, 2007 Political
Martin O’Malley was sworn in as Maryland’s 61st Governor at noon today. It will be an interesting four years as he finds that he is unable to lay blame for everything on someone else’s shoulders as he has done throughout his political career. Outgoing Governor Bob Ehrlich stated many times during the campaign that whining is not leadership. Unfortunately, this is the only leadership style O’Malley knows.
During the campaign O’Malley discussed Ehrlich’s broken promises. He has a web site that spells out all Ehrlich’s so called broken promises. Many of these items are open to debate (as to whether they are broken promises) and are not important to this discussion. What is important is that O’Malley claimed that Governor Ehrlich failed to fully fund Thornton (an educational initiative). Thornton had two components, the mandated portion and the portion that was optional. Robert Ehrlich funded the mandated portion. It is important to note that this was passed without a funding source identified. This is something the Maryland Legislature likes to do. They pass items with no way to pay for them. I imagine it gives them a reason to increase our already oppressive taxes.
Ehrlich did not fund the non-mandatory portion of Thornton and O’Malley was all over him for it. From O’Malley’s web site:
[Ehrlich’s]Broken Promise/Idea #10: “Fully fund Thornton Commission Fair Education Act by guaranteeing that the bulk of the money earned from slot machines is earmarked for all Maryland schools.â€
In 2002, Bob Ehrlich refused to sign the Bridge to Excellence in Public Schools Act, also known as the Fair Education plan, enacted by the Maryland General Assembly. Based on the recommendations of the Commission on Education, Finance, Equity, and Excellence (“The Thornton Commissionâ€), the Act was mandated to ensure adequate funding for the state’s K-12 public schools according to the Geographic Cost of Education Index.
Since the Thornton Commission was enacted without Bob Ehrlich’s signature, Ehrlich has refused to fund the Geographic Cost of Education Index.
As Governor and Lieutenant Governor, Martin O’Malley and Anthony Brown pledge to fully fund the entire Thornton Commission plan, including the Geographic Cost of Education Index.
The Maryland Legislature did not pass a slots bill so slot machines were never legalized in this state. Ehrlich’s “promise” was to use slots revenue to fund Thornton. The geographical portion is the non-mandated part and notice that O’Malley said he would FULLY fund it. In case O’Malley says this was a misprint or taken out of context (more blame shifting) here is the same issue from another part of his web site:
As Maryland’s next Governor, Martin O’Malley will:
Fully Fund the Thornton Education Plan. Martin O’Malley will fully fund the entire Thornton Commission plan to improve K-12 education across Maryland, reduce the achievement gap, reduce class sizes and recruit and retain the quality teachers our children deserve.
On two different parts of his website O’Malley says he will fully fund Thornton, something he criticized Ehrlich for not doing. In numerous campaign speeches O’Malley chided Ehrlich and iterated that he would FULLY fund Thornton. Ehrlich and many other wondered where the money would come from but O’Malley insisted that he had the leadership to make this happen.
Well, O’Malley broke that campaign promise before he ever took the oath of office. In mimicking the national Democrats who immediately decided that they could not do everything they promised (like FULLY implement the 9/11 Commission recommendations) O’Malley has decided that he can not FULLY fund Thornton. He is unable to come up with the money to fund the non-mandated portion, the very part he chided Ehrlich for not funding. While Maryland’s Democratic politicians were on the bandwagon against Ehrlich for not funding it they gave Martin a pass. Senator Hogan of Montgomery County said “I understand if he can’t do the full thing, but at a minimum, they have to show some down payment,†and this is because he campaigned on it. How is it Hogan understands if he can not do the whole thing? O’Malley said he would FULLY fund it which means the whole thing. How come O’Malley’s web site called it a broken promise when Ehrlich did not fund it but Democrats say it is understandable when O’Malley can’t do it?
This is the typical BS that O’Malley is famous for. He promised to reduce crime in Baltimore when he ran for Mayor. He reduced crime by keeping the police from making arrests. The number of murders in Baltimore supposedly went down during his tenure though this was due to creative accounting and the way dead bodies were classified. Suspicious deaths called suicides and such. In reality though, the number of murders per capita is up because people left the city in droves. O’Malley said that FULLY funding Thornton was important because education was his priority but in Baltimore the school system is dismal. In addition to low pass rates and failing achievement scores the system lost, misplaced, or misappropriated millions of dollars that has yet to be accounted for and all of this was on O’Malley’s watch.
O’Malley will get a pass from the Democrats in this state because he is a Democrat. He can do no wrong as far as they are concerned. The Legislature will give him slots if he wants them and will raise taxes as well. Payroll taxes will increase, gas taxes will increase, tobacco taxes will increase, and the state sales tax will probably go up 20%. O’Malley will do what Democrats have been good at for a long time and that is raising money to spend, spend, spend, at the expense of the working class folks who just want to make ends meet. In four years this state will not be fiscally sound and O’Malley will probably be given four more years to fix the mess he created. That is, if he does not abandon the ship he sank in exchange for a higher office.
In the end, the outlook is bleak but how do Democrats respond to all of this? ‘‘It’s a great day for Democrats in Maryland — and in Congress for that matter,†said Del. Gerron Levi (D-Dist. 23A) of Bowie.

City Officer Laid to Rest As New Governor Avoids Responsibility
Jan 16, 2007 Political
I wrote last week about the Baltimore City police officer that was killed by a thug right after he had gotten off duty. The suspect is in the hospital and when he is released he will be charged with murder. He should not have been on the street because he had been arrested 17 times and he was due to appear in court for two illegal handgun violations. The officer, Troy Chesley Sr, was laid to rest today at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, the place they put our fallen heroes. During the service, Mayor Martin O’Malley spoke. O’Malley, who will be sworn in as Governor on Wednesday, gave an interesting eulogy.
He stated that it was wrong that a man who had been arrested (and then he counted from 1 to 17 very slowly and dramatically) took one of our own from us. It is a shame when a criminal takes anyone but it is more tragic when that person is on the street because the liberal judicial allows them to roam freely. This animal had been arrested a number of times and had two handgun violations. There was no reason to allow him out on bail and every judge who allowed him to go free should be forced to resign. They should all be held culpable for the death of Chesley.
O’Malley though, never missed a beat. He told everyone how tragic it was and how criminals do not belong out on the street. Strangely, O’Malley always told us that crime was down in the city he ran. Murders were down (they were in number but not per capita because the population of the city has decreased) and he was running a tight ship. In reality, he allowed his crime statistics to be fudged and he just gave the State’s Attorney for Baltimore an 83,000 dollar pay raise. How can this person get such a raise if criminals are roaming the street and how can O’Malley give out such a pay raise?
It is also interesting to note that O’Malley’s wife is a judge in Baltimore. I wonder how many criminals like this she has let off. I wonder if she ever dealt with the guy who killed Chesley? I wonder if Martin ever told his wife to be tough on those nasty criminals or did he do what all liberal weenies do, allow them to go free because no one deserves to be locked up. Martin says he is tough on crime but the murder rate in Baltimore does not support that assertion. He says that he is tough on crime but he is against the death penalty and one of the first things the Democratic Legislature is going to do is try to abolish the death penalty.
At noon on Wednesday O’Malley will swear in as Governor. He has been real good all through his political career at blaming others and pointing his fingers. He will have no one to point those fingers at (except of course George Bush) when he is in the Governor’s Mansion. He will be the top banana and therein lies the problem. O’Malley has told everyone he want to do for the state what he has done for the city. Given his dismal record in the city it will not be long before cops throughout the state are being gunned down by criminals who were released multiple times by a lax judicial system. The cops are the lucky ones, they have guns so they can at least try to protect themselves. The liberal idiots in Maryland politics won’t allow the law abiding citizens to carry guns, we are too dangerous.
The guy who shot Chesley was arrested 17 times and had two handgun violations. He was not allowed to carry a gun but he got caught carrying one twice and the third time he used the gun he was not supposed to have to kill an officer. Yep, to Martin and the others, we are the dangerous ones. The safe ones get out of jail free and carry all the guns they want.
It is going to be a long four years.

Attention All Katrina Victims…
Jan 16, 2007 Political
And others who beleive that george bush is sinister and Katrina and the response were all his fault. Perhaps the folks of New Orleans have been watching the latest weather developments on the TVs they stole during the hurricane. Well here is a bit of information for them:
DENVER WEATHER BULLETIN
In the “Mile-Hi City”, we have just recovered from a blizzard of historical proportions. 44″ inches of snow with winds up to 90 mph that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed all roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10’s of thousands.
George Bush did not come. FEMA did nothing. No one howled for the government. No one blamed the government. No one even uttered an expletive on TV.
Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton didn’t show up. Our Mayor and our Governor didn’t blame George Bush or anyone else.
CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC did not visit, or report on this category 5 snowstorm.
Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards. No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House. No one looted. Nobody demanded that the government do something. Nobody expected the government to do anything, either.
No Larry King, No Bill O’Reilly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera. No Sean Penn, No Barbara Streisand, No Hollywood types are anywhere to be found.
We sent out caravans of SUV’s to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars. Truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn’t ask for a penny.
Local restaurants made food and the police and fire departments delivered it to snowbound families. Local families took in stranded people. total strangers.
We melted the snow for water. We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns. We put on extra layers of clothes because up here it is “Work or Die”.
We didn’t wait for some affirmative action bureaucrat to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for “sitting at home checks.”
Even though a Category “5” blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves.
It seems to me that once you get north of 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world’s social problems evaporate.”
I hope you will pass this on. Maybe SOME people will get the message. The world does Not owe you a living.
Welfare states breed people who depend on government to live. Others live by their own means because they did not grow up sucking at the government teat. That is why people in a hurricane stood in water looking around trying to figure out what to do while those in back to back blizzards made do and went out and helped each other.
Note: I believe I read this weather bulletin last year but the state was Missouri or Montana. Must use the same weather service.
