Ron Paul Part II
May 20, 2007 Political
Ron Paul is an interesting candidate and certainly has garnered some Internet support. While traditional or more scientific polls have him near the bottom of the pack the on line or unscientific polls show him near the top. This might be, as some of his supporters claim, because he has wide support among the tech savvy or it might be that those who support him vote a number of times in these polls. Whatever the reason, this second tier candidate has been mentioned more than he likely would have had it not been for his appearance in the last debate. He made a statement that upset many in the party by claiming that the reason they attacked us is because we have been bombing Iraq for ten years. This statement received a strong rebuff by Rudy Giuliani who claimed never to have heard of such a thing. Giuliani’s statement ignores the 9/11 Commission Report and other sources who claim that blow-back for our actions was one of the reasons we were attacked.
While I certainly agree that our foreign policy is likely to have ticked off those who do not agree with us I also believe that radical Islam has been looking to pick a fight with us for decades in order to beat us and impose their twisted religious views on us. Regardless of the bombing of Iraq for ten years we were likely to have been attacked anyway for nothing more than our support for Israel and its right to survive. Radical Islam believes that Israel is not legitimate and has no right to exist. That twisted ideology extends to those who support Israel and the right of its people to exist and to defend themselves against attack.
Ron Smith of WBAL had a great piece on Ron Paul and his statements. The article, Love Him or Loathe Him, Ron Paul Speaks his Mind points out:
As you might or might not know, Big Media jealously safeguards the status quo, ridiculing anyone who might, Like Dr. Paul, call into question the basic precepts of modern federal government, which include agreement by everyone who can be taken seriously that the U.S. is a special nation, a gift to the world, tasked with making sure that all other nations defer to it and, above all, do what we tell them to do, or else.
This is a true enough statement and one only needs look at Howard Dean to see it in practice. The big boys in government, regardless of party, and those in media hate when the apple cart is upset. Dean bucked the status quo and his over exuberant scream became his undoing though similar types of display by people such as Ted Kennedy have had little impact on their careers. I do not agree with Howard Dean’s politics but I do believe that the media and those running behind him at the time focused on his outburst as a means to shut him up. The left was so afraid he might actually run again that they made him the head of the DNC. If his outburst made him unsuitable as the face of the Democrats why did they make him the face of their party? They know that many people liked the freshness of Dean as he bucked conventional thinking. Ron Paul is such a candidate.
I certainly have not decided who to support in the next campaign. It is far to early to throw support behind any one person until there has been time to flesh out opinions and to separate the contenders from the also rans. I believe that Ron Paul, as Smith indicated and much like Dean before him, speaks his mind and unfortunately his thoughts run counter to the conventional thinkers in politics. I believe we need new faces and new ideas in politics. It is becoming increasingly more difficult to determine what party politicians belong to and for all the infighting those already in office seem to work together to help maintain things just as they are. Paul seems to espouse beliefs that many have but that the old boy network does not want to hear. As Smith points out in his piece:
Whatever the case, to me it’s just refreshing to see a man of principle stand tall and unafraid in the face of being called a party apostate and traitor and calmly state his case before a hostile audience. It’s uncharacteristic of modern politicians because it represents actually[sic] bravery as opposed to crowd-pleasing bravado.
I have no doubt that Ron Paul is a man of principle and that he speaks what is on his mind. He is doing it during the primaries when others save what they really think for the general election and this, like in the case of Dean, might mean he will never win any office higher than the one he holds. I do not suggest that he should not be who he is and that he should not stand on principle but his statement in the debate allowed Giuliani to go on the attack and to deflect the criticisms he has had on issues like abortion and gun control. Right now, people are talking about this and ignoring the hot topic of Giuliani and abortion that was in the limelight only a week ago. It was suggested that the focus on abortion would hurt Giuliani in the debate but Paul gave him a way out.
The establishment, consisting of both major parties and the media, does not like people who rock the boat and Paul has shown up as a Category 5 hurricane. His opinions, while researched and accurate, threaten the business as usual government and unfortunately for him, he will have to overcome the attacks from that entity as well as the others running in the race.
It has been suggested that Paul should not be allowed to attend any further debates and I think that is a terrible tact to take. What would be the uproar if Conservatives stated that Rudy Giuliani should not be allowed to attend debates because he believes in abortion rights? The purpose of debates is to allow people to put out their ideas and to let the public decide which candidate they want to represent them. If Paul is so contrary to public opinion and his ideas are so out of touch, why silence him? People are usually silenced out of fear. Is the Republican Party (and the establishment for that matter) afraid that Paul might get support? That would be the most likely reason to silence him.
Conservatives are looking for a person who espouses traditional Conservative values and Paul certainly has the credentials. As I stated, it is far too early for me to decide who to support but I want to be able to look at all the candidates and not just the ones the establishment thinks I should see. I like Fred Thompson but until he gets in the race I can not tell what kind of leader he will be and how firm he is in his Conservative beliefs. Regardless, Paul deserves to be heard and the people deserve to be able to hear him. It is the people, not the establishment, who candidates are elected to represent and the people deserve to hear the thoughts of every person interested in holding office.
To allow the establishment to decide who we may hear is un-American and smacks of Communism. I may never vote for Paul and he might not be around when the time comes but he deserves to be heard just as much as any other candidate.
Ron Smith’s show page does not have Digg. If you like his piece and want to let others read what he has to say, consider linking to his piece or Digging this one so that others might see his work.
I am interested in what you have to say so please feel free to comment as often as you like.

Ron Paul
May 19, 2007 Political
Supporters of Ron Paul for president have been bombing on line polls to give the impression that their candidate has more support than he really does. Fox news conducted a post debate poll that showed Paul placed second to Romney and the people at Fox found that quite interesting to say the least. Little Green Footballs had a straw poll and it was obvious that it was bombed by Paul supporters who got very upset that this mean nothing poll would dare claim they cheated.
Ron Paul has some good ideas but he is not presidential material. I believe he had the right to answer his questions as he saw fit and that he should not be excluded form further debates. The whole idea of having debates is to listen to what the candidates have to say and for the voters to decide who they wish to support. It is not a Conservative principle to silence those with whom we disagree. That is what the Democrats do though with the recent immigration amnesty bill it is getting much harder to tell the difference between the parties.
Fred Thompson has not entered the race and if he intends to he is playing his hand quite well. He has gotten a boatload of publicity and has not had to spend one dime and he has not had to raise any money. He is teasing the public and if he plays it right will get in just as the public is ready to climax so that people, in their excitement, will donate and donate big. He will do well in any debate and give the rest of the field, including Paul (despite his poll bombers) a run for their money.
Ron Paul and all the others who are running for the Republican nomination are the reason we need Fred. The candidates on the Democratic side are the reason we need him more than ever.
Don’t agree? Leave a comment and tell me why.

If He Burns It They Will Applaud
May 19, 2007 Political
A Hummer dealership in Las Vegas Nevada got permission to erect a 100 foot flag pole and to fly a large American Flag from it. He agreed to build a veteran’s memorial at the base of it but also agreed to a review of the Flag after six months to hear complaints neighbors might have. That period elapsed and they eventually got around to it now and a few people have complained. Some complain that the Flag is some type of eyesore (I wonder if Francis Scott Key felt that way) and other complain that the flapping in the wind bothers them. Still others complained that the veteran’s memorial had not been built though the owner stated he was awaiting final approval on the Flag before building it.
The town countered complaints about patriotism by indicating they made a law that forbids home owner’s associations from forbidding the flying of an American Flag. Someone from the ACLU stated that you can not have special rules for Flags, but that person is wrong. A town can make a law that singles out any particular item and it can be specific. If laws were not allowed to be specific they could not pass laws that forbid the hunting of species that are “endangered.” But I digress. If this dealership would have burned the Flag everyone who opposes it would have been happy. Many people agree with burning the Flag, though they are all on the left and believe that Flag burning is free speech but saying Nappy Headed Hos is hate speech. People who burn Flags are low life cretins that have no respect for their country and do not deserve to live in it. This issue can be fixed easily and without an amendment. All they have to do is ask and I will help them.
Back to Nevada. Perhaps if the dealer flies a big Mexican flag the people would be happy at the diversity. Of course, no one would ever ask for a Mexican or any other flag to be removed because that might be viewed as insensitive. It is only fitting when they are assaulting American Flags. This dealer should take matters into his own hands.
First of all, his dealership probably sponsors some of the local sports teams. He should terminate that as well as any activities where the town or a group wants to use his Hummers for a parade and what not. If he has a large piece of property that is not part of an association he should erect the largest flagpole and Flag that he can and if he belongs to an association he should erect a Flag at his home (within the rules of the association). He should also withdraw any political donations he makes to the people on the town council. These town politicians depend on donations from businesses to get reelected so he should stop donating. He should stop all donations that make the town a better place including youth groups, churches and other organizations. He should also fly as many Flags as he can at his business on the ground level and across the side of the building.
He should also get the people who support him to stop doing business with the places that do not. I understand that there were conditions on the Flag but it appears that this is motivated by something other than a complaint or two.
Today is Armed Forces Day so support the troops and piss off a Liberal by flying an American Flag. Mine is flying outside the door. In my neck of the woods Flag burners would get a bullet through them.

Allow Me To Clarify Hillary’s Position
May 17, 2007 Political
Hillary Rodham is catching some heat for her positions on the recent war funding bill. Hillary voted on a cloture motion to cut off funding for the war. Yesterday she stated that she voted for that to allow discussion but that she did not know if she would vote for the actual bill to cut off funding. Then she indicated that she would vote for it. Her opponents have seized on this and indicated that there is no time to conduct a poll before acting. Many of have known for years that both politicians in that household are poll watchers. They do not take their own decisions, they use polls to govern and that is not leadership. In any event, Ms. Rodham has had a day to think of a way out and she has decided that she would vote for the bill to cut off funding for the war. This is how the woman who wants to be Commander in Chief treats the troops, she cuts off their money and leaves them out to dry. Hillary is in an awful position because she voted for the war and now she has to try to appeal to a radical anti American base. This is making her flip around even more than usual so let me give a few of her statements and then let me comment:
- “I’m not going to speculate what I’ll be voting on in the future,”
This is rather convenient. She certainly does not mind speculating what she will be voting on any other time. She has no problem telling people how she will vote on other future issues. When she is trying to score points she can stump with the best screaming about what she would and would not vote for. When she is conflicted and trying to hide her true self she does not want to speculate. Right here on her website she speculates about how she will be voting in the future. Amazing how she did that.
- Knowing they had to try to quash a potential controversy, Clinton’s aides made her available to reporters to try to explain she was “misunderstood,” and clarify that she would have voted for the bill to cut off funding, if she had the chance.
“I support the underlying bill,” Clinton said, “I mean, that’s what this vote on cloture was all about.”
Doesn’t this negate item number 1? Hillary did not want to speculate on how she would vote in the future but here she is saying that she supports the bill and that she would vote for it which is speculating on how she will vote.
- “What we’re doing is trying to convey as strongly as we can the feelings that many of us have about the need to change course — some take a different course than others and to send a message to the Iraqis. I think we’re doing that, slowly but surely,” said Clinton.
Nothing to see here, move along. I am saying a bunch of garbled stuff that makes no sense so that you will be pleased with my genius and let me be. Move along, George Bush is evil and he started it, never mind my vote I am going to fix it when I get elected president (speculating?)
In more Hillary Rodham news, porn star Jenna Jameson likes Hillary and she particularly likes when Democrats are in the White House because it is much better for the porn industry. She loved when Bill Clinton was in office because things were so much easier in the porn industry. Clinton liked it too because it was so much easier for him to star in amateur porn in the Oval Office.

Never Trust The Democrats
May 16, 2007 Political
I remember when the Republicans were all full of bluster and said they were going to use the nuclear option to keep the then minority Democrats from screwing things up. Then they got together with Democrats and worked out a plan. I pointed out at the time that the plan benefited the Democrats and that they would not honor it. Within a week they were back to their old tricks and the Republicans would not put the screws to them. This would have been a justified move because Democrats were not fulfilling their obligations. I even commented at the time that if the shoe were on the other foot the Dems would screw the Republicans without thinking about it. Looks like the Dog is right again.
Stung by defeats at the hands of Republicans, Bella Pelosi has decided that she is going to change the rules so that the floor of the House will be shut down to Republicans. This is how the party of tolerance deals with people who are opposed to their ideas. They shut off debate and they change the rules to keep the minority silent. The Republicans will be screwed if the Democrats carry through with this. I realize that this is the House and the earlier issues were in the Senate but a stinking Democrat is a stinking Democrat and they will always screw over the opposition.
What this proves to me is that Pelosi is an ineffective leader who can not get things done. She has to use this method to accomplish things because she lacks any leadership ability. She is a disgrace to the Democrats (and that is saying something) and she is a disgrace to the many women out there who can lead effectively without throwing a hissy and getting their panties in a wad. Perhaps if Pelosi was not so busy trying to secure great deals for her husband she could lead that group of malcontents in the House.
Then again, probably not. Pelosi could not lead a group of people out of a burning building.
