Holder Wants Help Spying
Sep 30, 2014 Political
Of course it is all for the children.
Eric The Red Holder spoke at the Global Alliance Against Child Sexual Abuse Online and he said that the new encryption used on electronic devices will lock law enforcement out and hamper their ability to investigate and gather evidence.
The whole Idea is to lock government (in this case the police) out of our devices.
Holder is concerned because the encryption prevents cellular companies from accessing the data that is encrypted and he wants some kind of back door to allow law enforcement to enter. Sorry pal, you don’t get access to everyone’s stuff just because some folks use the things illegally. If you want the information you will have to find another way to get it.
Holder is concerned because it is for the children. Here is an idea, lock the child molesters and pedophiles up and throw away the key. If some person has thousands of photos and videos as Holder claims then that person is not new at this and has likely been at odds with the law.
Even if they have not then it is up to the police to gather evidence and find a way to get into that person’s device.
Sounds harsh but while Holder can claim it is for the children what will stop the police from using the back door to access tons of things? Suppose they arrest a person for drug activity. What would stop them from accessing a device and getting all the contacts on the phone and then investigating those people for drug activity? How many people who have nothing to do with that illegal activity will be the focus of police because they used the back door to a device? There are far too many ways for this to be abused to warrant allowing it.
Holder made his case by describing some child predator that has thousands of items in a cloud and lamented that the cops can’t access it.
Well they can. Cloud storage can be accessed (as stated right in the article where Holder described the alleged problem) so there is no reason to access any device through some police only entrance.
The government is involved in far too much spying on its own citizens and what Holder wants would only allow more of it to happen.
Stay out of our stuff and stay out of our lives.
When you catch a bad guy doing bad things put him in jail and LEAVE him there. Smarmy lawyers like Holder work with the system to allow these cretins to go free and then cry when they commit the same crimes over and over.
How about we have a citizen only back door into government devices so we can keep track on the criminals residing there?
Maybe this would have prevented Holder from running guns and working with the IRS to target political foes.
Hell, maybe we could have retrieved some of those emails that were conveniently lost.
Cave canem!
Never surrender, never submit.

Despite Denials, Government Is Spying On Us
Aug 1, 2013 Political
The government swears (and we can trust them) that they are not looking at our stuff. Why, they only collect metadata and only worry about terrorists and people with overseas connections. They are as pure as the driven snow and would never violate the privacy of the citizens of this great nation.
The head of the NSA said so and we can trust a guy whose job is to keep secrets and do spy stuff that no one is allowed to discuss.
Edward Snowden claimed that the government is reading all kinds of stuff and has invasive programs that can snoop through all kinds of things. He said that he, as an analyst, could do it from his desk. It looks like an article in the Guardian confirms what Snowden told us. The government has a program known as XKeyscore which makes available everything you’ve ever done on the internet. We will pause while you think back to what you might be worried about.
3-2-1
OK, XKeyscore searches your browsing history, searches, email content, online chats and your metadata. The very things Snowden said the government could do and the very things the government has denied.
[note]Isn’t it funny that government claims it must do certain things (like this) to keep us safe so it basically rationalizes spying on us but when a guy like Snowden reveals the program he is a criminal. He spied on them and revealed what they were doing. How is that different from what they do to us? I still have reservations about how he did things but he revealed a serious problem.[/note]
Think the government is not spying on you? A family was visited by the police after the wife searched for pressure cookers and her husband searched for backpacks. While there might be a problem with this and they might be planning something bad the reality is that both items are legal to purchase. The bigger picture item is; how did the government know what they were looking at online?
Let that sink in. There are probably ways that this could have been discovered BUT now that we are aware of the snooping that takes place and its extent one must wonder how government knew this information.
The government continues to deny many things and promises us that it is not invading our privacy but more and more we are seeing that this is not the truth.
As for the XKeyscore program, we are assured that safeguards are in place and it is not used to spy on people.
You mean like the safeguards in place to prevent the IRS from releasing data to other agencies, or being used as a political weapon against certain organizations? Or perhaps like the safeguards in place to keep voters from being intimidated like happened in Philadelphia? Or maybe the safeguards put in place to ensure guns did not get in the hands of criminals under Fast and Furious.
Let’s just say the government has given us no reason whatsoever to trust the alleged safeguards designed to keep our information private and to keep us from having our rights violated. It appears as if the only safe place is wherever Obama’s birth certificate and college transcripts are housed.
One has to wonder if XKeyscore found anything on Chief Justice Roberts. That would explain why he allowed Obamacare to stand by rewriting the law.
In any event, they are spying on us all the time. Keep that in mind. No matter what they say to your face they are spying on you behind your back.
Cave canem!
Never surrender, never submit.

PVT Manning Is No Hero
Jun 3, 2013 Political
The long awaited trial of Private Bradley Manning began today at Fort Meade Maryland. It has been a few years since Manning was arrested for releasing hundreds of thousands of documents that he contends the public had a right to see and the disclosure of which would spark a debate on our role of our military and our foreign policy.
Perhaps he is correct about all of those assertions. It is quite possible that the contents of the documents should be available to the public and perhaps they would spark debate. Let us assume all of that is true.
Another truth is that Manning was not in a position to make that call and it was not his right or his duty to release the information.
Bradley Manning was charged with analyzing intelligence and guarding that information. He was supposed to guard the information in accordance with the rules established for it. Someone classified the information and decided that it was not to be publicly available.
Manning disregarded the classifications and the instructions to keep the information from being released. He decided and took it upon himself to gather it and release it to someone who would make it public. This is where he went wrong. He broke the law and he is no hero for doing so.
People in certain positions within the government are charged with doing jobs that require secrecy. Manning was in such a position and he failed to do what he was trained to do. He failed to do what he was ethically and legally bound to do.
The fact of the matter is it does not make any difference if the information is damning, if it should be available to the public or if it would spark debate because Manning was not allowed to take that decision and he was not allowed to release the information.
There are those who support him and call him a hero. He is a traitor and he should spend a very long time in jail.
Suppose something he felt should be made public resulted in a terror attack in America. Suppose what he released was used by the enemy to attack and kill members of our military. I know that many on the left might still view him as a hero but most folks would be quite upset if what Manning released was used to harm them or their families or our nation.
Manning is a confused young man with many mental health issues. He got in a snit and did something very stupid and now he will have to pay.
No matter what, he is no hero.
Cave canem!
Never surrender, never submit.
