Democrats fail to control government spending

The Democrats promised to have an open government and to clean up the mess left by Republicans after 12 years of control. The Republicans brought the mess on themselves by turning into Democrats and increasing the size of government and the associated spending. Now that the Democrats have taken control spending continues to escalate even with record revenue to the treasury.
April saw an increase in revenue fueled by the tax deadline, a date where Americans demonstrate their lack of freedom by paying the government the fruits of individual labor. A total of $403.8 billion dollars was taken in by the government in April but spending for the month was higher than in April of last year. The deficit will get worse in the coming months as rebate checks go out, many to people who paid no taxes to begin with.
The federal government does not have an income problem, it has a spending problem. The politicians simply cannot control their spending habits and that means they need to take more and more of our money. Record revenues cannot keep them from spending more than they take in.
When Republicans were in control everything was blamed on them. The Democrats are now in control and this increase in spending comes on their watch. The size of government continues to grow and the Democrats continue to spend. Their open government is filled with back room deals and shady tactics allowing them to hide what they are doing.
The fact that we pay taxes is bad enough but the idea that they keep taking more and fail to control spending is even worse. We are supposed to be a free country but Americans did not enjoy their own money until April 23rd this year (it would have been later but the “rebate1” checks moved the date to the left). Everything we earned up until that date was required to satisfy our tax bill for the year. That means Americans, in effect, belong to the government and are forced to work for the government. Forced. The money is taken, not given and that means we are anything but free. We ended the practice of owning people and forcing them to work for free. The government must not have gotten the memo.
Instead of being a government of the people we are a government that enslaves the people. If the average employer took money from his employees he would go to jail. We are the employers of those in government and yet they confiscate our money.
The Democrats are in charge and government is growing. That does not relieve Republicans of any responsibility because government got bigger under their control as well. The only way to fix this problem is to vote every one of them out of office and start with new people and fresh ideas. We need to vote in people, regardless of party, who will limit the size of government and cut government spending. Otherwise we need to abolish the government and start over.
The spending problem is not new but the Democrats made a big issue of all the things that happened with Republicans in charge (even though the Democrats were just as guilty). That being the case, it is now time to hold the Democrats responsible for what is happening on their watch. The price of gasoline was $2.19 when they took control and now it is approaching $4.00. All of the economic woes happened since they took control and they are to blame for them. During the 2006 elections the economy was not an issue and the Democrats trumpet that they won because people are fed up with the war. The economy was not a major part of their platform, it was all about Iraq. Since they took over the economy has slumped and their promises to the anti war crowd have gone unfulfilled (not that I’m complaining about that).
Congress has the power to control spending, it is their Constitutional duty. They can blame the president but he signs or vetoes what they come up with. President Bush certainly added to the problem by losing his veto pen when his party was in power and spending increased. While he has found that pen, little has changed since Democrats took control. They continue to spend like drunken sailors on shore leave (my apologies to sailors). They are spending even more than the Republicans they criticized.
It is time for all Americans from both parties to band together and vote every incumbent out of office. I did my part and my Representative lost his primary. He will not be in office again and can cause no further harm (and he was a Republican). If you care for this country then vote them all out of office and let’s replace them with people who will do the job and do it right.
They refuse to pass a law limiting their terms but we have the power to do that ourselves by voting them out.
If we stay the course and add more Democrats to the rolls without replacing those who are already there we will get more big government and more spending which will lead to more taxes and further erosion of the dollar. Filling the place with Republicans without replacing the ones who are there will not be much different.

1 The checks are not really rebates. A rebate requires a person to spend money in order to get a portion of it back. Many folks who are getting checks paid no taxes at all. The scheme is actually income redistribution.

NJ Wants to Tax Fast Food

An idea has been floating around New Jersey that would have people pay a sin tax on fast food. The suggestion came from a hospital association meeting as a way to help raise money for financially strapped hospitals (stop treating ILLEGALS). The interesting thing is that a spokesperson for the governor said there was no plan to tax fast food but that Governor Corzine was open to reasonable solutions to help solve financing problems.
To Democrats taxing something is a reasonable solution. They ignore the fact that people are getting soaked now because of taxes and high prices. The economy is in a slow cycle that started when Democrats took control of Congress and their answer is to tax, tax, tax.
Fast food is not a necessity so if they tax it then people should stop eating it. Take the money they save and buy food to make lunches. Skip fast food all together and pretty soon the government will get the message.
New Jersey is mismanaged and corrupt. I know people who have been victims of the corruption and who are being ruined by corrupt politicians, judges and police officers. They continue to have financial problems despite the fact they have a huge gaming industry that brings in a ton of money. The corrupt people there are unable to keep spending under control and be responsible with money.
I am absolutely certain that if they could figure out how to measure how much air we breathe they would tax that too. They would probably justify it by telling us to get in shape so we breathe less and use air more efficiently.
I can imagine the new jingle if they start taxing Big Macs:

The Democratic party, the party currently in control, is responsible for the economic slowdown and the problems facing long term recovery. When they ran in 2006 they promised to be more open and run a more ethical government. They also promised to fix every problem that faced this country. The Democrats told the American people that they had a plan to make fix it all. Nancy Pelosi put out a press release promising the American public that the Democrats had a plan to bring gasoline prices under control. It would appear as if her claims are as phony as the Biblical passage she constantly quotes.
Interestingly, many Americans are uninformed and unaware of what is going on so many of them will either not know this or will not understand it. What can we expect from people who follow a candidate who promises change but never says what change? Anyway, President Bush was discussing the redistribution of income plan [Congress calls it the economic stimulus plan] where “rebate” checks are sent to Americans in hopes they will spend them and put more cash flow into the economy. It is a stupid plan concocted in an election year in order to buy votes. Both parties want to be able to tell voters that they gave them money to help them out. Interestingly, this is an admission by the Democrats that allowing us to have more of our money is good for the economy but too many people will be too busy taking money they did not pay in and spending it on gasoline that was supposed to be cheap after Democrats took power.
President Bush, in talking about the checks, stated that they would allow people to pay for the rising cost of food and gas. Democrats jumped right on this and said that the economic stimulus checks were not meant to line the pockets of the oil companies. The Democrats blamed President Bush for this and said it was all his fault (it is an election year so they have to lie, once again, about being able to fix this problem) and that he needed to get OPEC to increase production. In other words, they are saying that the President needs to fix the problem that they caused and that they said they could fix if we elected them.
“It’s galling to think that taxpayers’ stimulus checks will be lining the pockets of OPEC. The sad truth is that the average American family will spend almost their entire stimulus check on higher gas prices this year,” said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., chairman of the Joint Economic Committee of Congress.
OPEC is the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.
“Unless the administration gets OPEC to increase oil supply, American consumers are going to be in for a scorching summer of $4 gasoline with no relief in sight,” Schumer said.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., agreed that people “need this rebate to cope with the rising cost of gas and groceries.” She said that, while the rebates would help to get the economy moving, there was a need for a second stimulus package “and we have begun some conversation with the administration and Republicans.” My Way News
No Mr. Schumer, what is galling is that you Democrats promised Americans that you had a plan to fix the high price of gasoline when you didn’t. What is galling is that you lied about this to get elected and what is even more galling is that you now expect the President to fix the problem when your premise during the election was that he was incapable of fixing it so we needed to elect you to get it done. Mr. Schumer, if Americans will spend almost their entire check on gasoline it is because YOU failed to do what you promised.
Ms. Pelosi, we do not need another stimulus package where you take money from those of us who paid taxes and give it to those who did not. We do not need any more government interference in our lives. If you want to make things easier on Americans then cut our taxes. Reduce the amount of taxes we pay on our income, privatize social security (so we have all our OWN money when we retire or we can pass it to our heirs), and eliminate the gasoline tax. You Democrats promised to go after gouging. You people in Congress have absolutely nothing to do with the production of gas but you gouge consumers for 18.4 cents on every gallon of gas we use. Ms. Pelosi, if you want things to be better than live up to your campaign promise and execute your so-called plan to lower gas prices. Typically, you promised something you could not and had no intention of delivering on. I actually believe that a bunch of monkeys could do your jobs better.
For those of you who think that George Bush and the Republican party is to blame for the slowdown, keep in mind that when these folks were elected the economy was in great shape and the major focus of their campaigning was the war in Iraq (which they continue to cite as a reason for winning). The price of gasoline was $2.19 a gallon and they were crying about it being high and promising to fix the problem. Nearly two years later and we are in an economic downturn and gasoline is more expensive as is nearly everything. The economy went in the tank with the Democrats in charge so much so that they have hardly mentioned Iraq and they are trying to pin all this on Bush. Remember the Carter years and you will have an idea of what it will be like with a Democrat in the White House and a Democratically controlled Congress.
Who will they blame then? Just keep this in mind:

5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;
6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.America voted for change in 2006, and we got it!
This is what Democrats do to us. Vote for them at your own risk. I can’t see how the workers in this country will continue to fund a government that has an increasing appetite for our hard earned money. It will not take too much more of the income redistribution schemes (universal health care, Social Security, welfare) before people rebel. We did it once to expel the tyranny of government and we can do it again. I think it appropriate that I end with these words from the Declaration of Independence:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. Our government would do well to remember these words. We have a Second Amendment for a reason (which is why they keep trying to take our weapons)…

Liberal Wants to Abolish All Taxes

New York Times Op-Ed contributor Richard Conniff wrote a piece where he calls for us to abolish all taxes. his method for accomplishing this is to change the word taxes to dues. Conniff writes that this would take a page from the conservative play book where words are changed to reframe the debate. He cites changing the “estate tax” to “death tax” as an example. His rant gives the impression that conservatives are the ones who do this and it is our trick. Liberals would never do such a thing such as change their name to progressives to give the impression that they are on the move and because liberal has been defined as a dirty word.
Conniff said if we call them dues rather than taxes it will give people a sense of belonging.
But the word “dues” also plays into the psychology of group identity, and that can work to the benefit of conservatives and liberals alike. Consider that “tax” comes from the Latin for “appraise” with punitive overtones of “censure” or “fault,” as if wage-earners have done something wrong by their labors. “Dues,” in contrast, is rooted in social obligation and duty. Let us examine this because he might be on to something but if we change he has to be willing to live by the rules established with everything that is associated with the word dues. First of all, a tax is an appraisal. They appraise our work based upon how much we earn and then they take part of it and how much they take is based upon how much the appraised value is.
Dues are something one pays to belong to an organization. As Conniff puts it; dues are rooted in obligation and duty and I believe that would be an obligation and duty to the organization. In every organization I have belonged to the dues were the same for everyone and they were not based upon the value of my work. I also must note that people only pay dues to organizations they want to join. If they do not want to belong, they do not pay dues. Given this, people will be allowed to choose if they want to belong to the organization and if not they will not be required to pay any dues. Also, dues will be the same for everyone who decides to join. A person making a million dollars will pay the same dues as a person who makes ten thousand. We cannot make people pay different rates based upon salary because that would be an appraisal of their work which is a tax and taxes will have been abolished.
If, for some reason, Conniff advocates for mandatory membership then we need to decide what to do with the people who do not pay any dues. Right now, under the tax system, people who earn too little pay no taxes and yet they receive the greatest number of benefits from those now paying taxes. In an organization where dues are required non dues payers receive no benefits. In fact, people are not allowed to belong if they do not pay their dues. This might not be an issue because our dues will be fixed and not based on income (so everyone will have to pay) but if the powers that be decide that those less fortunate do not have to pay dues then they do not belong and they will not receive benefits of dues paying members. No welfare, no Medicaid, and no voting. If you want the same rights as members you have to pay your dues.
Mr. Conniff has opened a can of worms in his effort to smear conservatives and be cute at the same time. I think he is on to something and that we should switch to dues and follow the customary rules associated with dues. They must be the same for everyone, people may join if they wish, and those who do not join do not get any benefits of membership.

Democrat Tax Rebates Explained

If you don’t understand the Democrats’ version of tax refunds, perhaps this will help explain it: 50,000 people went to a baseball game, but the game was rained out. A refund was then due. The team was about to mail refunds when a group of Congressional Democrats stopped them and suggested that they send out the ticket refunds based on the Democrat National Committee’s interpretation of fairness.
Originally the refunds were to be paid based on the price each person had paid for the tickets. Unfortunately that meant most of the refund money would be going to the ticket holders that had purchased the most expensive tickets. This, according to the DNC, is considered totally unfair. A decision was then made to pay out the refunds in this manner:
People in the $10 sea ts will get back $15. After all, they have less money to spend on tickets to begin with. Call it an “Earned Income
Ticket Credit.” Persons “earn” it by having few skills, poor work habits, and low ambition, thus keeping them at entry-level wages. People in the $25 seats will get back $25, because it “seems fair.”People in the $50 seats will get back $1, because they already make a lot of money and don’t need a refund. After all, if they can afford a $50 ticket, they must not be paying enough taxes. People in the $75 luxury box seats will each have to pay an additional $25 because it’s the “right thing to do.”
People walking past the stadium that couldn’t afford to buy a ticket for the game each will get a $10 refund, even though they didn’t pay anything for the tickets. They need the most help. Sometimes this is known as Affirmative Action.
